We owned a Tacoma for 20 some of years but sold it about 8 years ago. Now ready to buy a Tundra - a 1794 gas 4WD. As i do not know much about them I have spent the last three weeks reading a ton of posts on the 3rd generation here in this forum. It has been fascinating but I still have so much more to learn. Anyway - if someone can answer a few simple questions for me I would greatly appreciate it (I could not find my answers in the posts that I read):
    1) When do they expect to tell people what differences - if any- between the 2023 and 2024 year 1794 models?
    2) when do you think they will stop making the 2023 models and switch to the 2024 on the production lines?
    3) when do you think they will start to ship the 2024 models?
    4) Do you think there will be an opportunity to save some money at that point by buying a left over 2023? Save enough to make it worth while waiting or should I just go ahead and buy one if I see one with the options that I want (which is really no options - I want a step at the bed and running board steps - that is all). Of course I am interested in getting the best price possible but what is considered best price seems to change from poster to poster. But wondered if this would be a way to save a litthe money

I know that the supply chain issues from cv19 shortages etc has impacted how these questions might be answered this year vs how they might have been answered pre-covid. I appreciate any answers you care to share. I am really trying to learn more about these current trucks.

Auto loan rates have stayed the same in my area since May. I believe this is because fed didn't raise rates during last week's session. But they did say less aggressive fed rate hikes are still to come sometime this year.

A youtube video mentioned that one of the changes in 2024 is the introduction of the Limited Nightshade Edition (no/less chrome).

I'm just guessing that the longer you wait, the better quality vehicle you're likely to get.

But between the msrp increases, dealer markups/discounts, rate hikes, supply levels, fluctuating trade-in values, and other factors, it's hard to predict overall cost

    Just my 2 cents.

Welcome from the Great White North. When it comes to timing big purchases (at least for me), my gut instincts usually kick in. I do a lot of research along the way to figure out what I want. I write everything down and revise the list many times as new ideas and items pop up all the time. When the timing is right and the list barely changes then I pull the trigger.

The 2024 is supposed to have a hardware fix on a fuel gauge sending unit. Besides that, I haven't heard of much.

I wouldn't expect (m)any significant changes. As far as when, the market is improving for buyers and I suspect you can get them well below MSRP already. Maybe even a few $ lower later in summer. The question you need to ask yourself is how flexible you are on your build and timing because... Toyota. They make what they make and you find what you find.

Thanks to all who have responded so far. I am still trying to work out how to use this site re posting / replying etc. I found how to like a reply but still trying to work how how to individually thank each poster. Since that makes a lot of posts I felt that this one thank you might work best.

My 2022 was produced in the last runs in September. The factory model year turnover did not happen in August for year 1 at least. 22s and 23s were coming out of the factor close together. So my theory is the difference between those model years was virtually nil.

The 24 will probably fix small quirks from 23, as 23 did from 22. There may be a few additional items, digital key being one (since the Tacoma will be having that), maybe TSS 3.0. From a visual perspective the 24 will probably be identical to the 23 and 22.

Trying to reply to CRFL82 who said “There may be a few additional items, digital key being one”

Thank you for this. I just looked at the digital key info on Toyota and it seems to need a wireless network, gps and a cellular connection amongst other things. Do you know what happens if you drive into an area without these things? Say the mountains of NC? If you stop the car can you not start it again? Does it the truck keep driving when it hits dead spots? the website was not clear and I have no experience with this - it is a new concept to me. Thanks!

Doubt tundra gets digital key. Can’t even remote start it without it shutting off if you open the tail gate.

24 won’t have any changes besides base msrp increases.

click the quote button to reply. I’m also potentially waiting for the ‘24 to come out at this point as I’d like to see what the full release looks like.

That would be some major points for Toyota if/when they include it for the prior years models. It would probably be more financially beneficial for them in the near-term to include it only going forward (new "feature" for the 24+ models), but retroactively enabling it for existing vehicles would be another win towards brand loyalty.

If the modules are there it would just be an OTA update for prior years. Wouldn’t be too hard

that would solve the problem of 2nd fob, just add your phone :)

plus as a side benefit, you wouldnt require 2 fobs at sale. just 1 physical and how every many digital keys (phones) or the credit card key. oem saving money that the bean counters will love.

about 90% of the population is carrying a cellphone, so you wont have to carry a fob.

on the flip side, if you have a wallet, you can get a credit card key and not carry a cellphone or fob aka lexus way

Ok so the only thing we are gaining is not carrying a fob?

then you also lose your back up real key then that’s in the fob

true, but not like my wife is going to remember there is a mechanical key to open the door anyway. its her daily driver :)

she will just call me anyway if anything happens that doesnt involve

    1. unlocking the door with her hand
    2. pushing the start button
    3. pushing the icon to start spotify on the head unit
    4. pushing the button to turn on the heated steering wheel or seats
    5. pushing seat memory #1

and this will be the norm for about 80% of the tundra buying public, this forum probably only contains maybe 5% of the whole tundra buyers in the usa.

    On getting the best price.
This is based on my limited 2023 purchase and many others, but the 2023 was unique in that demand outstripped supply.

Visit dealers, many will say MSRP, but they tack on a ton dealer options. Like catalytic theft deterrent, upholstery protector, nitrogen in the tires, ect. All overpriced. One dealer was going to charge me $600 for nitrogen. Insane. My point is they all advertise MSRP and I found exactly one of probably 10 I visited that actually charged MSRP. Well they told me they would not sell without a catalytic converter anti-theft plate, but they took that off the price, so technically MSRP. And there was some BS dealer fee of around $100 they took off. My opinion, get the catalytic converter plate, Tundras have 4 of them and it takes at least 90 days for to get them.

If it were me once I found the dealer or two I would tell them what I want, a discounted 2023 once the 2024's come out and see if they can provide. Sales guys are going to tell you they won't go down, but they will. If not you still found a 2024 at MSRP and hopefully a trusted dealer.

And if price is the main decision maker, look online, you will see what colors and models are plentiful. Hint it's not going to be a 1794, at least when I was looking. There were a ton of black Tundras mostly lower level and those were discounted. But advertised price most likely won't be the actual price. I was temped to call the Attorney General because some the cr@p I ran into, it just seemed illegal and if it wasn't it should have been.

The dealer I found at MSRP found a Limited for me but it took about 6 weeks to get one with cameras in silver or wind chill. It was silver.

Also cars are always discounted in December, at least in Texas, because they don't want to pay the property tax on them.

A digital key would allow toyota to further delay production of 2nd keyfobs, wouldn’t it?

I wouldn't need a second FOB if me & my wife could use our phones.
