So this is the 4x4 actuator very likely getting stuck. Search for this around the forums.. you will get many threads that discuss this issue and also if you are handy, fix it for cheap.

Ooh and another thing.. Always use your 4x4 system from time to time.. i.e. at least 1/2 times a month. Also make sure you are on mud or loose gravel while engaging 4x4.

One thing you can try to do is start driving in 2x4 and see of the 4x4 switch can activate the 4x4.. its worth a try.

If you have a straight shot of highway can throw it in 4hi, just make sure to shut off before needing to turn. I'll throw mine in 4lo when Im parking and just go back and forth in a straight line.
I read this recently. Might help you.

    Pretty things
I usually toss the truck in neutral while still moving a few mph and then turn the knob to activate 4HI. I do the same when shifting back into 2wd.

I know the system is supposed to be able to shift on the fly (upto 50mph.?), but I'm usually about 5mph and coasting in neutral. I HAVE activated at like 35mph when the highway got shitty enough, but still threw it in neutral.

It can go into 4wd HI up to 60mph...maybe even 65mph iirc.

Have you tried moving the truck (forwards/reverse)? Sometimes it just needs a little movement to align the gears in order for the shift fork to slide over and engage 4Hi.
