So my boys and I were in an accident recently, and while we are all on the mend sitting at home waiting for the insurance company to tell me what the status of my truck is going to be. I have to plan out my options. I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I’m not sure if my truck will make it. We got hit T-Boned pretty hard.
I haven’t been in this forum in awhile and quite frankly because this place cost me money with all these awesome mods you all do :). I’m currently 8k and counting thanks all :)

I haven’t looked at any of the new Tundras because I have been very happy with mine, now that it might be an option I have some questions.

    1. Is there a big difference in the Platinum and TRD Pro?
    2. Should I be looking at the 2024’s vs the 2023’s?

I currently have a Platinum with bilstein shocks and 35’s. I absolutely love it and I would have gotten the Pro when I was looking but it didn’t have all the bells and whistles the Platinum had.

    thank you in advance

    Sorry about the accident.

Totota’s website has a pretty good comparison tool for the trims. What’s standard and what’s optional with each.

Pro is a based on a Limited with the performance add ons and the Hybrid engine
Platinum has more bells and whistles available and can be Hybrid or Gasser.
Go 24 or even 25, lots of discounts on the 24’s now.

I would go with a pro if you care a bit more about resale value but never guaranteed .

If not I would go platinum and a lift to get those 35s as well. You will get more features in the platinum not many but still some more .

Some things to think about if you want 35s and not a lift. From factory the pro will fit the 35s no problem . If you plan on lifting and changing stuff out go platinum .

I made that mistake went pro because I had not had a pro and loved the truck but the mod bug hit and ended up changing suspension completely and going through multiple sets of wheels and tires .

Thank you for the feedback, I need to compare the bells and whistles of the two models to see the difference. I mean I like the platinum has heated/blower front seats and rear window that goes fully down. The leather is nice but that seems to be standard now on the Pro. I like that the pro already has the shocks and is ready for new tires and rims when funding becomes available and that the Pro has no Chrome!

Well, the Platinum trims have real leather (albeit sorta thin) while the TRD Pro has synthetic Softex. While I do of course like the feel of leather, I’m grateful to have Softex in my truck. Feels cooler in summer than leather, never needs conditioning, lower risks of stains, and more resilient overall. Just something to think about as you compare trims.

I do like the thigh extender in the Platinum seats, and that’s also not available on the Pros. Additionally, while the front seats are ventilated/heated in the Pros, the Platinum has both rows heated and ventilated.

On the financial side Plat (Get the OR package) is better to your wallet (not talking about resale value) since NO discount on the PRO and NO discount APR. On the Plat you can get $4k-$6k discount easily Plus 1.99% APR if you want to finance.

This is all really good information, this is why I come here.
I believe I did notice that the Pro doesn’t have LED headlights, I assume it has a different version though.

As much as I hate the 20” wheels and shocks on the platinum I think those are easier items to replace aftermarket vs some of the techy items that’s platinum provides. The issue comes that I will be damn broke for a long time before I can change the shocks and wheels :(.

As for leather seats I was fine either way. I always have the truck tinted to match the rear windows.

The 360 cameras on the platinum is a very enticing item too! I know it’s an option but I don’t believe that is available on the Pro.

if I’m missing anything else, please mention it.

The Pro does have the premium LED headlights like the platinum and limited w/ premium pack, they just have black trim on them. You do still get the power full rear window as well, but the PVM/360 camera system is not available on the Pro. The TRD Pro is my favorite trim. I might've ended up with one if it had the 6.5 ft. bed.

Wait for the 2025 as they will have massaging seats on limited up and trailer camera options.

I test drove a TRD 1794 and really liked it,if you don’t care about hybrid I’d find a TRD platinum or there’s still some 1794 limited editions left I believe? That’s what I have and I love it, I also had a 23 pro

The biggest difference between the Pro and Platinum is the 1794 is better. I hope this helps. 2025 has a couple nice upgrades, but sometimes waiting isn't an option.

Platinum and 1794 have the black headliner as well, which was the deal maker for me.

I have a 23 pro and it does have the PVM and 360 camera well even the MVM I think is what it’s called just extra views when off-roading .

I went from an 18’platinum to a 23’ pro. I wasn’t a fan of the grills on the new tundra. But when I saw that pro it looked real good to me. But I guess you could put that grill on a platinum.

It sounds like you enjoy the luxury features the platinum has but like the stance of a lifted truck. You might want to find a Platinum with the factory 3" TRD lift. You'll get the beefed up axles required for the lift and the stronger TRD sway bar. You'll also get the heads up display front and rear ventilated seats. which I don't believe the pro has. Some think the camo all over the pro is a little over done. As mentioned above you will find more likely find deals on the non pro tundra's and better financing rates from Toyota With the 25's coming out soon, dealers will want to get rid of the 24's to earn more of the 25's. Happy hunting.

Indeed, the 2.5 gen Pro's didn't even have auto-folding mirrors (a need if parking in a garage) ?! No brainer to upgrade a Platinum, now on 3rd gens it's a more level playing field.

Yeah the features on the Platinum outweigh them in the Pro. I will be honest I hate the shiny cheese grader grill on the platinum and would immediately change it for the Pro one. I’m just not a fan.

Since the accident I have had time to think, and the after market wheels tires and shocks possibly not being cover if my truck is totaled is an eye opener. (Still waiting on the adjuster) Yes I know I can fight it with the other insurance company if I have to go that route but I found out for future I can pay an additional fee through my own insurance to cover those after market fees, then if this happens again, (hopefully it never does) the other insurance would be required to cover those after market items if the truck is totaled.

But I did read on this forum about others with 22+ models on possible issues with warranty claims with aftermarket wheels, tires etc, with everything going on with the new tundra I think I will hold off on the aftermarket tires and wheels. I don’t want to give the dealership or Toyota any incentive to void a warranty.

I know I can get the TRD package and/or the 3” factory lift but in my eyes it doesn’t look right without 35’s on it. It just looks like the truck skipped leg day.

I appreciate all the feedback and hopefully I have an answer soon on the future of my 2018. Stay safe out there

I can’t speak for the pro, but as a new 23 platinum owner I love it. Came from a 21 Tacoma pro but never had the need for the off road abilities.
