Hello all. I just bought a ‘21 TRD Crew Cab Pro. Truck has 34k on it now, and I’m super psyched to pick it up next week. Question please, I don’t need to dump a bunch if coin, especially now, but what “necessities” would you suggest I consider? Stock power and suspension is just fine at this time. Truck already has mud flaps, step bars, and a tri-fold tonneau. Bug deflector maybe? Thanks.

Fuel, lots of fuel? I hear the 5.7 with 4:30’s is quite thirsty!

There are a number of good mods that you can set as a goal when funds allow: cat protection, transmission cooler. I would start by changing all the fluids so you have a fresh starting point - that is, if you don't know when they were done. Enjoy.

Yup, I always start with new fluids. As far as cat protection goes, I did that with my last Dodge, about 12-15ft of 3/8 ss cable and a few muffler clamps did the job! Thanks for that reminder.

You can’t go to the mall without lights, I suggest hitting up @memario1214 for some Baja design lights. I’ve heard the green chase lights are legit

    Cat protection would be #1.
Mine were stolen 11/2021 in my employer's parking lot.
It took 8 months to get my truck back from the dealership.
The bastards even cut my @dirtydeeds BAM muffler.

If you don't do them yourself, I'd recommend Talon's Garage.
    He's a forum vendor.

Keep in mind I have a TRD skid plate, your TRD Pro should have one as well.

If you're not happy with your TRD dual exhaust, some say it has helicopter drone, look into @dirtydeeds systems.
His systems directly bolt on to OEM pipes, although you would need a single-out OEM pipe.
I'm running his 10" BAM with his Helmotz resonator and it's perfect.
Also a forum vendor, Keith and his staff are awesome to work with..

I really like my bedrug under the tonneau!!

And maybe power and lighting in the bed (unless the '21 comes with it? My '19 did not)

    Enjoy!

@1lowlife I had them put the truck on the rack so I can inspect it. Very clean underside, has skid plate, and after market exhaust as well, unknown mfg. Sucks the scum got your cc, I can secure that easily enough. Is that an additional skid plate to secure the cat?
@SD Surfer no leds in the bed as far as I can remember, so I’m going to look to add them. There are these drawers though:

My list (where I am right now, though I didn't do it this order):
    cat protection
    Bumper step
    Seat jacks
better sound (still not happy, going to have to change the stereo, I fear)
    Floorboard lighting

Are you sure the exhaust was aftermarket?
The TRD Pro comes with TRD exhaust.
It consists of 2 separate mufflers and dual exhaust tail pipes.

The top one is the OEM stock muffler.
    TRD exhaust under it.

I don’t recall the muffler lay out but no id on the tips, which both exit under the rear bumper. Love your color btw.

If you don’t have the trd rear sway bar that’s a must.

I also like the banks pedal monster I just installed

and the interior chrome is blinding in the sun at times so a interior chrome delete helps also

The best mod on my 2018 was the storage bins under the rear seats.
Husky X-act floor liners also served me well.

Yes xact fit liners are on the list as well, I did however buy a bed extender but don’t use it as much as I’d imagined I would.

I didn’t even think there was room enough beneath that rear seat. I’ll have to check into those. My Dodge had plenty of room.

Hands down the #1 mod is paying it off.

Kinda obvious I know. Just don't lose sight of the best mod when adding other items to your cart.

Yes I paid my 2020 off like mid 2022. No extra mpg on the truck but adds hp and mpg to the budget!

I would use Genuine Cooling Systems kit. It's a little pricey, but worth it. I plan on buying and installing one in the spring. Also, the underseat storage tray that others brought up is a good mod. I was a little uneasy about cutting the carpet and foam of a new truck, but it was well worth it.

Theres only a few mods that i would consider must haves, cat shields is definitely #1, followed closely by a tranny cooler. I would also say the driver side grab handle and a fold out step for the rear.

Looks like we have a good chance of gasoline getting a little bit more costly. That could lead to a whole bunch more tank drilling which leads to replacement tank shortages. For that reason, I will say a decent form of protection for the tank might be something to strongly consider. Desert Does It seat jackers are a great improvement too.

You have to cut holes into the carpet and foam under the seat. It sounds a lot worse than what it actually is.
