I drive a 19 TRD Pro and have airbags installed. I pull a 26ft camper and use stabilizers on my hitch. Between the airbags and stabilizers, I thought pulling would be a breeze but I still get some sway around and above 100km/hr(60mph). I’ve tried using different pressure in the bags and different tension on the stabilizers. Wondering what methods everyone uses to pull smoothly. I’d like to pull a little further this year and just want to do it as safely and comfortably as possible. I’m not looking to speed, just pull without stressing the whole way.

How is the TT loaded? When loading mine I try to balance the trailer weight as best I can front to back with items I put inside it. Also what type of stabilizer hitch setup are you using? I tow a 26' with a 2018 Tundra with an Equal-i-zer WDH and the only time I ever notice minimal sway is when passing semi trucks.

Took the words out of my finger!

When you say Stabilizers are you talking about WDH or Friction Stabilizers?

You really need a WDH setup properly setup to get rid of the sway reliably.

The TT loaded is around 7000lbs I think. Maybe a bit more.

I do use a WDH setup. Not sure the brand but I have to swing the holder down, put a chain link off the stabilizer bar into the hook and use a snipe to engage it.

I also have a rat pack toolbox in my truck Not sure the exact weight of it.

I’ve began the process of measuring my stance on all 4 wheels from road to fender on level ground with my toolbox out and the min 5lbs in my Airbags. I put my toolbox in, measured the squat, and adjusted my airbags. This puts me at around 15lbs in the bags and back to original stance.

The next thing I need to do is take my camper to a flat lot, unhook it, level it out measuring from frame to road on the front and back, backing up to it and adjusting my WDH hitch to be level with the trailer coupler. After that, hook on and get my rear end back up with airbags and engage the WDH in different places until I see the front end come down to as close to original stance as I can get.

does this method check out? I’d like to ensure that I am carrying the weight as best as I can. I‘ve got kids so I want to be safe if I plan on going further than a local campground.

A WDH with sway control. What you have now is not going to get the job done, and the airbags are compounding the problem. Airbags are great for leveling loads out with minimum air pressure to do so. Fine tuning so to speak. The majority of the load should be had with the LDH and set up properly.

Was just looking at my WDH bars. They’re Valley Industries. I don’t see why these can’t provide me with the weight distribution I need. What’s the reason these aren’t going to get the job done?

As far as air bags, I’m using them together with the WDH. From what I’ve read, isn’t this the best way to go as long as the setup is done properly?

Weight distribution it will if it’s sized right, but sway control...not so much. Can you reverse with the hitch installed? A lot of “link” or chain style WDH you need to unhook to reverse.

Air bags are fine with load distribution for fine tuning. So let’s say you have the hitch adjusted as best as you can and need a little more level. Then you add 5psi increments until level.

The best LDH style are trunnion style...
