Puddle lights

Brand new platinum less than week old. Puddle lights not working. Talked to dealer waiting on response. Is there something I am missing that I could be doing to turn on. All other lights are working both inside and out.

 

Didn't know we had puddle lights.

Where are these 'puddle lights' located?

Same issue the 2.5 gens had. Lights so dim I didn't even know they were there until someone else here mentioned it.

 

I don't believe my platinum has any lights on the mirrors. There's a camera on the underneath, which one could mistake for a light, but my puddle lights are on door at the bottom.

 

Tow mirrors have puddle lamps? Maybe OP has those…

I asked because I didn't see anything in the wiring diagrams for mirror puddle lights..

 

I guess the question that we need answered is;
"why is the camera under the mirror not lighting up the ground when the dome lights come on?"

 

I did find those in the wiring diagram..

 

Seems this wiring could be for the courtesy light in the door ... not necessarily for a light in the mirror.

There is one guy here with a 3rd gen who did it was quite lengthy and he did a great write up on it to.

 

Well I guess I feel stupid. Someone mentioned that they are cameras in the mirrors. I just assumed with all the features that the platinum has that there would have been puddle lights. I know that I traded in a ram big horn and it had them. Was a nice feature when you hit the unlock button.

 

No, not stupid, just figured that with all of the bells and whistles they'd toss in some puddle lights too.
It's about as dumb as the remote start and turning off when you go to open the door,now that's wicked stupid.

 

Their biggest miss in the newest generation is the exterior approach lighting is nonexistent.

 

I added the diode dynamic bed light kit, and mounted them as puddle lights. Easy fix.

 

I may put Amber lenses on them to see how it looks.

What did you tap in to to power them?

 

And they are wired in to be approach lighting as well?

 

Using the bed light kit from diode, they plug and play into the oem bed light. Since they are, they act just like the bed lights/cab light. Turn on when opening doors/tailgate, or when unlocked.

 

Nice! They got that idea from somewhere.

Such a miss by Toyota. And this install proves why. Not such a simple "Let's add some lights"

 

No auto walkway locks are a miss

 

That is an awesome write up.
I added the same lights to my 2014 while I was also running mirror turn signals.

Initially, I used a different LED until I discovered the VLEDs.
