What have you guys seen with the protective film? I have a 21 Tundra TRD Pro coming in (which I worked super hard to get!) and it has it on it. Once you start get chips does the film look like crap? How hard is it to remove? I have a friend who does ceramic coating and I was thinking about doing that to the truck. Should I remove the film first?

PPF can be good or not so good depending on the color of your truck. Lighter colors, especially white, will eventually start showing a yellowish hue as the PPF ages. This is not noticeable on darker colors. If you're going to remove it, it's much better to remove it sooner rather than later. I recommend a good ceramic coating, which can be applied over the PPF.

BTW, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

Thanks! I’ve never done ceramic coating but like I said, my friend does it and swears by it. I’m getting black so I will probably do it. I had a black truck previously and it was tough to keep scratch fee.

The film needs to be replaced every 4-6 years before the adhesive dries and shrivels. There are many posts from people with old PPF that has dried and damaged the underlying paint. I'd probably have the film removed for ceramic coating if you are getting one with a lifespan longer than 5 years.

has anyone heard of a graphene coating? apparently there is one that is called "self healing" if you get a little rub or scratch it can be taken out with a blow dryer.

how does this compare to the ceramic coating?
