I recently took ownership of a 2016 4x4 1794 with 90k miles. It seems to be in great shape, but I'd like to do any preventive maintenance that might be needed to keep it running for a long time to come. Synthetic oil, cabin and engine air filter and new tires were taken care of pre-purchase. Toyota Owners service history shows that Oil changes were performed on time throughout its life and front pads / rotors turned taken care of at 69k. Other than that, I see no record of fluid changes etc. There was a note about rear brakes possibly having a stuck caliper pin but no other info or indication of fix or changing rears.

I am thinking I should go ahead and have the following changed. Thoughts? Overkill? Am I missing anything?

    Coolant
    Front / Rear Differential fluid
    Transmission fluide
    Check brakes

Probably about time to replace the serpentine belt.

As you said coolant changes seem to be very important to these engines.

I don't think your list is overkill at all. I'd add:

    - Brake Fluid flush
    - Transfer Case Fluid
    - Spark Plugs
    - Grease u-joints

Thank you for the great replies! I did not know about the serpentine belt and will add that to my list. I am not mechanically inclined at all and could have easily confused that with a timing belt which I know does not apply of the 5.7. I hope the coolant has been changed at least once and just not documented, but if not, I really hope it's not so acidic that it has damaged my head gaskets. After owning German cars the last few years, it's comforting having a Toyota again and not worrying about reliability and breakdowns.

I don't buy that. I think his dealer probably did multiple coolant flushes at various service intervals as part of larger "xxx, xxx mile service" packages and Mr. Shepard was simply unaware of exactly all those services entailed.

Guess we'll never know. I'll do my coolant changes though.

    Yup. Same here.

Add to the list: PCV valve, belt tensioner, and idler pulley. The tensioner and pulley may not be necessary, but I would do them while you are in there.

Also, the transmission has a drain and fill plug that makes servicing it simple. I prefer a couple of drain and fills over a flush, but that topic can be hotly contested.

Very helpful, thank you for sharing!

I went out and looked at my coolant today and it looks super clean, bright red/pink so I am hopeful that means it has been changed at least once since the truck was made. I will get her in for service very soon using the info in this thread.
