Hi All. I wasn't creeping on the tundra prices before covid. Maybe someone can fill me in a bit because I'm trying to figure out what Tundras would have been worth. Say for example, if a 2018 was 46k MSRP in 2017. I would expect to pay 40k or less the next year for the same truck used. Then keep going down as mileage and years go up.

When I was in market leading up to Rona lockdowns I was looking at used and CPOed 2016s thru 2018s. Prices ranged from about $2K below new (a 2018 with low mileage) where every ~5K to 10K mileage dropped about $1K to $2K sometime higher depending on region. They were capping out at about $26K for a two to four year old vehicle with ~100K miles.

According to this a new model would sell a year later for $3K below MSRP. You'll have to pick your models and timeframe:

I bought a 2019 4runner in 2020 with 22k miles on it about 10k below the sticker price when it was new. That was before the prices went nuts.

Being as the dollar is going to continue losing value on the global market, rubber costs probably going up in the future

I think prices will come down this year for non fuel efficient vehicles anyhow.

paid 600$ Canadian more for a set of Michelin Defenders compared to 2 yrs ago. They costed 2020 1000$ Canadian. That's more than 50% increase in price.

Yeah I ended up buying new when the market started trending down. Dealers couldn't move inventory off their lots.

The CPOed 2018 I looked at was going for $45K For snorts and giggles I looked at a 2020 ended up buying a 1794 for a little over $47K + TTF. I sold one of my other cars a few months before all the crazy and got good money for it vs a trade in. I tracked prices for that car, at peak I could have made an extra $3K to $4K; not worth the hassle holding and paying property taxes and registration for it. Glad I bought and sold when I did.

It will be interesting to see where the markets go from here.

I got my 19 DC SR5', for $36k brand new.
I feel like I got the truck for free.

Then I did every mod to it myself.
Its basically a 1794 TRD double cab clone.

I got my truck for $0 drive off, $350 a month.

I priced a gen 3. Payments come out to double.

    Love my tundra.

I had one of the first 2007 5.7 limited, back in 2007.

That truck went 220k miles in 12'years, and never once broke down.

I did have ac issues because of bad relays.

But the truck never left me stranded, ever.

    Not even once.

That's why I went tundra again.

I got my 2016 SR5 in January of 2020, just before Covid got all crazy. SR5 upgrade package, Off road package, convenience package, 5.7 4WD. It cost $32k with 32k miles. Hell of a deal then and an impossible deal now. It would cost me about double to get a 2022 with similar options. And of course with the used market now, I see trucks with 100k+ miles going for over $30 grand.

Bought new 07/2018 - 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road Premium (not a Tundra, but still a Toyota truck)
Sticker $39,200. Paid $33,500. Was very happy with that deal.
Totaled in July 2021 and found out I couldn't even get a bare SR5 Tacoma for that price at the time, so moved onto the Tundra. It was cool that insurance totaled out $4k higher than what I paid for it new and it had 75k miles on it.

    Bought new 07/2021 - 2021 Toyota Tundra SR5 TRD Off-road
Sticker ~$45,000. Paid $3,000 markup because I'm an idiot, but needed a truck.

I'm like many others - in 03/2020, got my Voodoo Blue CC 4x4 SR5 with TRD Offroad, SR5 Upgrade, and a few other packages, for $41.7K+TTL. Now I'd have to pay right around MSRP for that - and that's for a USED version. No thanks. I got a HUGE deal in comparison. :)

Indicating new supply is coming in. The same trend is happening in auctions too.

The reason used was so high is because new supply was low to nonexistent. Used prices rose to meet the demand.

I got my 2021 in October of 2020. Crewmax SR5. Pretty Basic. Came with locking Tailgate, few other little add-ons. Paid $31K out the door. $19K out the door after my 2010 Double Cab trade in with 190,000 miles on it. Have put quite a bit into it to make it look how I want and still a steal of a truck.

    2019 Limited 4x4 bought Mar 2019.

    MSRP was $52.5k.
    Purchased for $44.7k.

While I'm happy with the current market on the truck, I'm equally as excited about the current market for used RVs. Got lucky and snuck in a purchase right at the start of it, before supply chain and quality issue, before markups, and when they were more than happy to discount.
