Do all Tundras with Push-Button Start suppose to come with Power Tailgate function?
Somehow I'm being told that only Platinum has this function.
How do one suppose to lock the tailgate with keyless access remote? I know there is small, kind of, "key" inside the remote, but that one is for emergency opening the door when battery dies out. Its very inconvenient to be used many times a day to lock/unlock the tailgate every time leaving the vehicle on the parking lots or driveway.
    Am I missing something...?

My tailgate stays locked all the time unless I need to open it. Why do you need to unlock/lock your tailgate every time you get into or out of your truck?

The power tailgate lock is an option. It does not come standard on any trim level. I am about to add it to my 1794 myself. I opted for the aftermarket Pop A Lock system for mine due to price.

Its not that I need to unlock or lock it every time. Its more like you used the bed to carry stuff then you park it at the mall or on the driveway and have to remember to lock it every time then. But it also inconvenience if you have to do it with that small of a "safety" key we have in the Push-Button remote

Its baseline for Premium and 1794 in Canada, but not on the TRD Off-Road Premium as I was told. We don't have the Limited since 2018 as it was replaced by TRD Off-Road Premium and TRD Sport Premium. I was puzzled why this Limited feature is not on the Premium trim level. Was it just me finding this kind of strange? I drove friends' Tundra for several month and he had a normal ignition key, which wasn't that bad, but with now Push-Button Start remote, pull out "needle-size" key and lock/unlock is very inconvenient, I can just imagine how much discomfort it would be in the winter at -10...-20 and snow...

The key on your FOB unlocks your tailgate as well. I installed the factory lock system and it was plug & play. Took about 1hr or so and works with my remote now Vs taking the key out the FOB.

Do you by the chance have a part number and instructions how to do it?
I checked with the dealer and they want $435 +tax for this power function to be installed. How much did you buy it for?

I will be ordering and installing this soon, pulling that little key out of the fob is a pain.

This is not OEM but a lot of folks on this site have had great experience with Pop A Lock. And at the time I ordered mine, Walmart.com had it for the least $$$.

Here's a screen shot of the part number. I got it for about that price maybe less. But my family does have an auto business so I get stuff at cost. Hope it helps.Screenshot_20201008_170007_com.android.chrome.jpg

I have the oem tailgate lock. I bought it from a dealer and had them install it. I have push button start. The tailgate locks and unlocks with the rear doors. It's much better than using the little key.

As others have stated, the tailgate lock is an available option but not standard with any trims in the US.

There are at least two power tailgate options, OEM and Pop N' Lock. The OEM version is plug and play and has grommets to replace any parts needed for the installation. It looks like a much cleaner installation overall.

I ended up with the Pop n' Lock version; at the time it was considerably cheaper. It will require some modifications when installing the older kits; some new kits have the grommet/clamps to pass the wires through the tailgate. The tricky part is running the wires into the cab; fishing the wires underneath the carpet was time consuming. Also I recommend buying and using Positaps instead of the clamps the kit provides. Overall the install can take 30 mins to 120 mins but an hour is reasonable if you have the right tools to including a wire hanger. Plenty of videos on YT showcasing the install, just keep in mind some of the model years have slightly different wiring to splice into. Best of luck.

You should have received an actual key with your 2 smart keys. A full size key blade.

I paid $400 for parts and installation. I believe it was $169 + 2hrs labor. I don't remember the tailgate lock being an option when I got my 2020 last November. I wonder if the factory is now running the wires during assembly. If so that would account for some of the low labor costs some are quoted.

In May when I took delivery, I only received two smart key fobs, each with a mechanical key inserted. I've never heard of receiving an additional full sized key with smart keys.

EDIT: Correction - I found the key several weeks after posting this. I had put it up in the sunglasses holder that is too small for my Oakleys.

From what I have read, pretty easy. The OEM part is plug and play. Instructions can be found and printed off. I ordering mine soon, not too worried about it.

No, just 2 keyless remotes. Each remote has built-in "needle"-type emergency key, but its just a blade and very inconvenient for daily use.
May be in your area dealership give you an additional key, but not in Canada. I have the same story with 4Runner I have.

That of would be great if there is a plug in the tailgate we can just connect the OEM actuator.
Can anyone confirm that wiring is already in the tailgate on the 2020+?

There is no wiring in the tail gate for the lock actuator. You'll have to run wires from the actuator through the tailgate, under the bed, through a grommet into the cabin. When people say "plug and play" they are talking about when the kit splices into the passenger door lock power. The OEM kit comes with a harness that requires no splicing. The Pop N' Lock kit comes with some clamps but I recommend using Positaps instead.

I can't find the thread. But there's a guy on here that said the dealer charged him $15 to install the oem tailgate lock.

I see. So there is an empty connector in the passenger rear door for the power tailgate. OEM kit has opposite side of the same connector and it just plugs into that.
    Thank you for clarification.
