Hi everyone! Need help with power steering pump making a knocking noise. I replaced with a new pump and the new pump is making the same knocking noise, and the fluid in the reservoir is extremely hot and overflows

How does the belt look? And the fluid?
What makes you think it's the pump and not the rack?

I am starting to think it is the rack especially after replacing the pump. I haven't had much experience with a rack and pinion. I think that is the next step.

    Thanks for your comment

Judging by your explanation it does sound like your rack may be the culprit. Is there any fluid seepage coming from the rack? What color is your PS fluid... and does it smell burnt?
    And welcome to the forum!

The rack is not leaking, the fluid doesn't smell burnt and the fluid has been changed. I don't understand why the fluid gets so hot. I know it will get hot under pressure but it seems like it is too hot. maybe normal IDK. We are going to replace the rack and hopefully that will fix. I will keep you posted and thanks for your input.

Are you using ATF for fluid?

Does the power steering itself work fine?
