Power steering flush

The other day when I started my truck I heard the ps pump whining. Fluid was full but dark. Read a few board posts and went to get new fluid to flush it.
I'm flushing via pumping out the reservoir, refilling, driving a while, repeat. Ive used up the first quart of fluid I've bought and the pump isn't really any quieter.
For those of you that have done the flush with noise, did your noise slowly subside as you got the old fluid out? Go away when it you'd gone through more than a quart? Or never go away?
