Has anyone powder coated or painted factory OEM wheels? I've got a set that I like but need to refreshing and wondering how this would hold up. One guy said he powder coated and the pic looks great, just wondering about the durability. Thanks!

I don’t know anything about it... but that wheel looks cool in that color!

PC is a great coating, more durable than paint. Drawback, tires have to be removed, then remounted.
Plastic center caps will have to be painted.

Look great. How long have they been done and how holding up? I would really like to but want to make sure it's a durable finish.

    Thanks.

Yeah, didn't really want to ask that question but it was running through my mind. Gonna have to put truck on blocks, remove tires. Good thing is that I have another vehicle to use and in need of new tires but not going to be easy as pie.

    Did you have done?

I had my TRD Offroad wheels powder coated black. Added TRD center caps to get rid of chrome Toyota emblem. It's true that it can be a pain if you have to have a tire shop unmount and remount the tires. I had to do that and they broke one of my tpms sensors. They replaced it but didn't have an updated tool to reprogram beyond a 2017 Toyota so I'll eventually have to go to the dealer to get that taken care of.TRD_OR_Wheel_PC.jpg

Had mine done as well. Found a powder coat shop that removed the wheels and tires and remounted. Saved a headache but it did cost more. 1 day service.

Both of those sets looking good. I was trying to find a set of TSS new offs but nothing close and either too much to ship or come with tires which don't want. So the powdercoat thing is new, seen someone post it and then the mind started wondering. Is it durable?

I don’t know much but I think PC is one of the more durable coatings money can buy for auto applications. Mine were done in matte. These have been on 1.5 years.

I have powder-coated many wheels. Finish is durable, but just like paint it will scratch. Make sure you stay away from gloss black, especially if you have a type A personality. Whoever does it, make sure the wheel is prepped properly. Some shops leave the old finish and powder-coat over that. That's not the proper way to do it. If you don't mind spending extra money, you can also add a coat of clear for extra protection.

I believe you can have them ceramic coated if you're worried about it. Granted, powder coating and ceramic may cost close to what new wheels would.

Have not done but did look into it. Having vehicle on blocks for a few days wasn't ideal.
Believe most black wheels you see are P.C., can't be too bad.

No, I was thinking along the lines of a gun metal gray. So, they need to first remove old coating? Yeah, I would want the clear coat for the protection. Thanks.

Yeah, that is another problem. Block it up, take off tires, have it done, put tires back on wheels and then back on truck. Now, if I had a 2nd set, then sure.

I have been giving serious thought to having my Method wheels powder coated in hyper black. So much so I made an appointment and then chickened out. F180EC3F-EB68-4F96-8155-D6CFE7823774.jpg

Yea, scoring second set of wheels to PC or maybe when it's time for new tires, would make a little more sense.

Yeah, I'm about to need new tires. But I'm having my local tire dealer install the new tires with some new coilovers, so kinda stuck with the truck on blocks. Or, just find a set of the TSS wheels in gray and problem solved!

$215 per wheel, they do the mount and balance and paint the center cap as close as they can. I will have to remove all the bolts on the lip. Hyper black or silver cost more I did catch that.

Curious, gray TSS wheels? I have seen in chrome or maybe polished and in Black (maybe more Matte), but not in gray. I know the Matte Black looks kind of gray at times, just not picturing gray. :notsure:

Yeah, first time I came across was on a dealer lot and loved them. Majority are black and didn't even know about the chrome til I saw a set on here about a week ago.

I guess I have seen, not as many for sure. Also thought they were polished Aluminium.

They would look nice on certain color Tundras. What color is yours?

Can't remember for sure but though sticker said something like graphite gray for the rim. But not sure. Same, silver sky metallic. Not sure what they would look like. Right now I have the Louisiana / Texas edition rims that have the black insets but the clear coat is peeling bad. Seems to be a very common problem on those rims.

Yeah, when the guy posted this pic I knew it was factory but thought I had never seen before until he showed me the before pic! Honestly, I really don't like that rim in original coat but the color, all one that he did I really like.
