So they are having to replace Turbo's before they hit 1000 miles...that might be a new record...lol

Not even close. I’ve seen ford replace them way before that. And if I read it right, it doesn’t sound like they are having to replace anything except some electronic bits.

He said it’s an electrical issue inside the actuator, but then goes on to say that the wastegate actuator, turbo, and manifold will all be replaced as one unit. Not sure how crazy of a fix that is on these new engines. I imagine the biggest issue will be just getting the parts and not the job itself.

Who knows how many trucks with that check engine light have this issue. He says he is a Toyota master check so I assume he has a bit more knowledge about it. Figured I’d post it here in case others have more to add!

FB is, of course, a trust-worthy source of news in the 21st century, right???

BTW - if you know anything about turbos, wastegates needing proper voltage tuning and rarely need replacing, much less when nearly brand new, LOL...

I knew I should have put a disclaimer for people like you ha ha jk Yeah, hard to believe anything people put in the internet these days. If it is true then hopefully it’s just a few that have the issue.
And yes I know a bit about turbos, but thanks!

I wonder what the code is? Wastegate stuck open/closed? Either way, power will be reduced because of lack of boost or to avoid an overboost condition.

I would imagine something vague. Reduced engine power or something like that. Who knows what it would show when the code(s) are pulled.

If this ends up being more than just a few rigs I’m sure we will hear about it. For now it was just a post on the FB Tundra group. Just had been seeing a few check engine lights pop up here and there on that group and figured I’d post it here. Maybe someone will see it who is more in the know and give more detail.

I’m really curious to find out what’s going on. Since it’s wastegate, there should be a P code DTC associated with that check engine light. I guess typical Tundra owners don’t own code readers…

Unless it is a faulty part from the factory which is what is being said.....I see check engine lights popping up on new tundras almost every day since they released them...so it is probably not far fetched that there is a bad part issue. Not to mention the number of holds on trucks from the distributors. Just yesterday I saw a QC hold on 1794's in some SET region trucks

Again, same Fb group, but someone is saying their check engine light is due to the wastegate actuator. Take it for what it’s worth. Not sure why multiple people would lie about this, but people can be weird.

Its a thing....and the parts to fix it are not available...the payments keep rolling as your truck sits. Until Toyota can narrow down the batch of parts, it will be a crapshoot whether you are buying one with an issue or not.

With the number of these that are popping up and the rate that they are popping up at, it might be a full couple of weeks or more of production with the bad parts. Since it was first mentioned I have seen a lot of them....and that is only the people on social media...there are many more out there that are not on social media.

I did see one tech that said they have 3 of them sitting on their lot so far that are waiting for parts for the issue that they don't know when they will be able to fix.

Yeah, just found and added a screenshot of the guy claiming they have 3 with this exact issue at his dealership. I guess we will see how widespread this is over the next few weeks. I'll still be getting a new Tundra FYI. Fortunately, I want a bare bones SR5 or Limited (not sure which yet) so I will be waiting a long long time before one of those hits a lot.

Has anyone heard of this is a particular trim that’s having the issue or just random?

This wastegate actuator problem is real. My truck started having the same issues last night so I brought it into the dealership this morning. The dealer said the same thing as the posts above and kept my truck until they can fix it. My truck has only 1,159 miles on it lol

damn, this is what early adopting risks are.

I wish everyone luck, the biggest problem may be parts

At the 5:45 min mark they talk locations of the turbo system. Does not seem like a simple quick fix.

Lol y'all crack me up. Several users have shown a CEL between 300-1k miles. It's an issue and was a bad batch. I guess "bUt FoRd" is just a comfort statement for ya.

Shit happens. Bad batches happen. Prob take some time to figure out the amount it happened to. Sucks there is no immediate fix as imagine the CEL will continue to pop and need reset.

Glad there’s people testing these as Guinea pigs. IMO Toyota is asking for too much $$ for these new trucks. Drove one and the tighter quarters suck. Feels more like a GM. Not a fan of the rear bumper either. The new Tundra reminds me of the Chevy 3/4 and 1 ton. If you have to only see it in a certain trim or color to think it looks good then it’s a flat out ugly truck

On the bright side, maybe this will cause folks to now think twice about paying these crazy dealer mark ups, causing them to come down a little.

I was simply stating that other manufacturers have had similar issues with their products on release as well. And Ford is one of them, especially with the Ecoboost engines. Whereas Ford brushed it off as non-sense for the first few years, I’m sure that Toyota will respond and fix the issue before much longer.

They are not letting the trucks be driven I don't believe after this issue pops up. I think the power is so reduced that it is unsafe, some of the people I have seen are getting loaner's until the parts come in. Since they have to replace the actuator the turbo and the manifold to fix it...it may take a bit.
