Poll - New 2022 Tundra Owners Please Post Comments on Real World Mileage

Appreciate if you could post the kind of mileage you are getting with the type of driving you are doing.


1) Daily driving, commuter empty
2) loaded down - let us know how close to the payload rating
3) towing - how much weight you are towing.


Please tell us if you are also driving in colder weather Northern US or Canada or warmer climates.

It would also be nice to know how many gallons or liters it takes to fill up from "E". I think the new tank is 32 gallons, how much do we actually get to use?

 

Check the 3rd gen threads already created, there are a few and people have been posting pics, truck details and MPG

 

Probably also worth noting where the gas is ethanol blend or not.

 

You can use all 32 gallons of it. Just because the gauge reads empty doesn’t make the gas unavailable.

 

Once people start logging 2022s, you'll get a decent, less anecdotal view here.

I averaged 19mpg driving from Roseburg Oregon to Bend Oregon last weekend. Temps in 30s and 40's. This included about 50 miles of freeway at 75 mph and then driving over the cascades 50-60mph with elevation gain and curves, had to pop it in 4wd for a mile or two due to snow. Not bad IMO.

I hear ya. Just curious more than anything. I think Gen 2.5 you still have a ton of fuel left after hitting "E" so I was curious about gen 3.

 

My fuel light comes on when I still have 6 gallons of a 26 gallon tank left. Wouldn’t surprise me if the GEN three pick ups are the same.

 

That makes total sense regarding the towing. Thanks, I never thought of that.

19mpg = about 12.4 liters used every 100kms.

That would be the computer. Also should mention i have the larger fuel tank.

 

According to the computer on my limited after the first tank of gas, I am at 15.8. Hoping it gets better

 

If you drive 12000 miles per year, the diff between 15mpg and 21mpg would only be about $76 per month ... assuming $4/gal gas prices.

Nothing to get too excited about. If you were getting 40mpg, that would be another story ... but 5-7mpg improvement is not enough to dump a V8 to get a T-V6.

 

That’s almost 1,000 dollars in Savings.. sounds pretty cool to me

 

You’ll have a hard time EVER making a new vehicle pencil out simply to save gas.

 

depends what reports you want to hear. I have seen lots of reports of getting 20-24 mpg on a tank. And these are all new trucks under 1000k miles. In winter..

 

On the V8 going between my in laws and my place, I would normally get about 12.5mpg. Today I got 16 with the new 2022. One of the things the dealership mentioned to me, not sure how much truth/myth there is to it, but real MPG won't start showing until about the third tank of gas. Something about the break in period and the engine building into its peak performance after being just built. It may explain some of the low amounts for folks. For me, even at 3.5mpg more on the first go around, that's a decent jump to start off with just driving at low speed with a ton of stop signs.

 

Can you tell us the distance for this trip, usual time frame it takes and is it winter temps?

If anyone is using a Tundra mostly for stop and go driving.

With the new Gen 3 should benefit in stop and go without boost. I am assuming it will get similar to my son's 4.0 Liter in his 4 Runner.
Hope people prove me wrong with their posts.

I can say the 5.7 Liter in my 2018 takes a while to warm up in cold weather. During this time its mileage is worse. If ones ideas in winter is to start it up, wait a minute then just go, if the temp needle has not moved - your mileage will be terrible but I have never got.

except when towing.

I see 16-17 l/100km on the computer which is about 14-15 mpg on short trips. but I will say.
Another big issue with the computer in my 2018. It starts high and goes down. If its a 5 minute run to get something.
Forget what the computer says.

I recall now the first time the fuel warning light came on in my truck 3 years ago. I was very surprised it came on so soon, and I actually thought there might be something wrong with the fuel gauge. It did sink in though that I was driving a beast, and that Toyota was probably using a worst case usage scenario. So I appreciated that.

There’s a lot more people who own and post about tundras on Facebook then on this forum. Any truck can get bad mileage in bad conditions. Like cold weather and winter gas. But the fact that guys can get over 20 as many have shows me everything I need to know. That the rated mileage is achievable. Here’s one example of someone’s 70-75mph highway drive.

It might not increase , when I traded my 4th gen for my 5th gen my premiums went down because the new truck had a better safety rating .

 

20 mpg = 11.76 l/100km

I can get 12.5 l/100km which is 19 mpg driving 50 mph with the 5.7 liter loaded up not towing.

I want to see 24-25 mpg numbers with this new engine, and loaded up.
