Please help with tie-down anchor issue

I removed the two bed storage bins on my Trail Edition. In looking at the bed side walls, there is a single hole on the bed walls near the cab which served as screw down location for the bins (other one near the tailgate on wall at the anchor). Anyway, that hole (white paint area on pic took a T40 bolt with the bin and is no use to me, unless it can be for an aftermarket D-ring (?).

Perplexing to me is that when I look at images of standard configured beds (see example pic) there is an anchor (two screw mount) on walls near the cab in the same area (pics). Has anyone mounted these (assuming I can get from a dealer)? I hate to drill in the bed wall incorrectly and have a loose anchor... would that single hole (pic with white paint) serve as one of the two holes if I can get another of those standard Toyota anchors?

 

I'm willing to bet there is already a hole there by the cab for the bed anchor. It almost looks like in your pic there is an indent where the second hold would be, can't really tell for sure.

It may have a plug in it and then it was covered with bed liner. Just saying Toyota does not usually eliminate things for different models or options.

For the tie downs I would suggest getting something better than stock.

It’s most likely under that spray on bed liner. Take a large needle and start probing. I have a set of factory tie downS I’ll send you for free if you pay shipping. You can match one up with the existing hole and it’ll give you the distance to the second hole under the liner.

That's real cool of you Tundyfundy. Hold that thought for the time being, as I may look into buying a pair of those anchors made to mount under the bed-to-frame bolts. Not the same, but a good compromise nonetheless.

Selling the bins? That was the plan at least. Honestly, I am trying to see if the social media marketplace, etc., will yield any bites (less hassle and cost to buyer as far as freight). I was shocked to find out from a dealer that those retail for $700 a pair! I was surprised to see that I shelled so much for this component (buried in the cost of the truck of course). Per the dealer parts person, it requires the side rails, although I don't see why that would be required....attached quote form.

 

I pulled mine out also, and plan on selling when I get around to listing them. I don't see shippi.g as an option. . Would probably cost a ton.

 

dealer price $700/pair? That's a lot, no doubt, but way less than I expected.

 

I will most likely run a new thread on the marketplace forum. I don't want to stick it to any of the awesome members here by being too greedy, but of course, I want to get a good price for them (I did pay for them after all and they are brand new). Naturally, I don't want to have to hassle with shipping either (plus that would be high as these are most likely 100 pounds for the pair)
