I recently purchased my truck that had a camper on it from PO. It has airbags on the rear suspension. In the front it has a spacer or something that seems to add lift. Can you help identify what type, and how much of a "lift" the truck has?

    Urinal cake, for sure......

Defintely a spacer lift. If you measure the space, that is about half "lift" you are getting from it.

*Edited to provide accurate info, thanks @gosolo @16tunterd @csuviper

Is this purely cosmetic or does it actually do anything functionally? Would it allow for slightly larger tires?

My guess is that it isn't the proper way to lift a truck, is it?

I would like some suspension guru to confirm this, but the way I understand the front end geometry, the lift should be roughly double the thickness of the spacer.
This looks like a 1" spacer so it's probably about 2" higher in front than it was when stock

It's actually a negative for "functionality"
    It limits the shock.
The only positive thing is by lifting the front of the body you increase your approach angle meaning you can climb over obstacles without hanging up on the bumper

It does look like one of those things in the urinal!

I am not a suspension guy, I have always kept my suspension height stock.

It is the same as a "leveling kit", the cheap way to raise the front end a bit. Make sure to extend your bump stops or you could collapse the bottom part of your shock if you bottom out hard.

The next step up would be adjustable shocks like the Bilstein 5100's or 6112's.

Then come adjustable coilover kits, etc. There is a whole suspension section in this forum that could teach you a lot. I would get into it but I don't have the knowledge.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in, for the bigger tires you may need wheel spacers or a different offset to prevent rubbing up front.

    Two more questions:

How difficult is it to remove the urinal cake that's installed?
Would it be a dumb idea to run airbags in the rear with totally stock suspension in the front?

The airbags are usually used for towing to help decrease the saggy butt syndrome. There's nothing wrong with running airbags in the rear w/o a urinal cake in the front.

with a couple of jack stands - it shouldn't be more than an hour to take them out - will be a lot less after you've done it once. **edit** looks like you'll need a spring compressor too - your local parts store will rent them for free...

    Where are you located?

Not a dumb idea at all - possibly the opposite... if there's a load on the back, either in the bed or towing, air bags help with that

Looks like a top plate spacer in which case he won't need to disassemble the coilovers. Should just be able to lower the shock enough to remove the cake and reinsert the shock

The actual spacer width is not the actual lift height because of the angles involved. I believe its 1/4" spacer height = 1/2" lift height.

I think that is what i said in post 4 above, but no doubt, the more different ways we say something the more likely that it will be understood!

it'll take you longer than an hour to get it off. Try 4 hours total and that's lowballing.

it does decrease functionality but not by much since it's such a small lift. 3" would be a different story. Best thing you can do is go back to stock (remove the urinal cake) or upgrade to bilsteins, toytec (how bou daaa @DVYota ) or any other adjustable coilovers if you really want a lift.

 just swapping to a new coilover or lift like the boss system would be easier and quicker. Those coils might be worn out because of the spacer. Maybe try and find a newer stock set on Craigslist or here. Lots of guys sell theirs cheap after they get a lift

Just doesn't look right. Bet the ride is bumpy as hell. Not the spacer I would use. The picture above is the right lever to use.
