Hi gang, I'm sort of freaking out a little bit.
    2010 4.6 v8 2x4 DC LB
    130k miles
    Tow package(transmission cooler?)

Anyways, I've read a topic in 1st gen that you may get problem with a seal in radiator and it starts to leak coolant into transmission fluid line.

From what I gathered, 10 years or 150k miles is usually when you need to start worrying and/or replace the radiator. Plastic begins to fail and something else happens and you get pink strawberry colored transmission fluid and transmission will go bad in short order.

Does it still happen on 2nd gen? Has anyone had this issue?

Thanks gang, I'm going mowing now.

It's not an issue on your truck. Your transmission cooler is completely independent of the radiator and located forward/passenger side of the radiator when you pop the hood. No need to fret!

I do recommend replacing the transmission fluid, at least drain the pan and refill the same amount to start circulating some fresh fluid, if you have not.

Thank you, gang!! I am relieved to hear that!

My transmission was actually flushed around 105k miles because she started getting this "driving over washboard" shudder around 35mph and it progressed worse to shudder during downshift when more power is required.

I took her to the dealer and they did a transmission flush and I got slipping and slamming when leaving stop-sign next day. I immediately took her back and they redid something and she's driving like new now!! Maximum happy!

Ps- I did get doom comments that tranny is toast and I'll get stranded as soon as it started happening, but so far, two years later and almost 30k miles, no problems!!:burnrubber::rocket::turtleride:pulls like an angry turtle!!(because 4.6 and not 5.7):yay:

As others have said, the tranny cooler is separate from the engine coolant radiator...

There is however a tranny fluid HEATER which uses the engine coolant to bring the ATF up to operating temp more quickly.

While it does not seem at all common, I do remember reading about someone who had a breach in this system which contaminated their transmission fluid.

I apologize for the lost sleep :(

Yeah. First read about it a few months back. The anxiety has since subsided, so I hope it's the same for you.

Just drive it. Chances of that warming puck leaking coolant into your trans fluid is closer to zero than 1%.

Mine leaked. So the chances of the transmission heater leak is not 0%. What does your radiator fluid look like? Is it like a pink milkshake? The synthetic transmission fluid doesn't mix well with the radiator fluid.

O I haven't looked in there recently. Expansion bulb looks fine I think, but I don't remember either. Must check it out tomorrow.

I called it the tuna fish can, it had an internal leak. But it only leaked when heated up.
