After reading the latest back and forth thread on purchase price and about throwing my beer at the screen when reading something along the lines of "Yeah, but that was out the door", I decided I would copy/paste a thread I started years ago on another site:

For the love of all that is good and decent in this world, can people stop asking or stating what they paid "out the door" or "with all taxes and fees". This means nothing to the rest of us. Taxes and fees vary greatly across the country and can be thousands of dollars different from place to place.

If you are curious as to whether a deal is good or want to tell others what you paid, please list a detailed description of the truck including all options and dealer installed accessories BEFORE any taxes, fees, etc.

    OK, rant over.

What if the taxes and fees included a crankcase full of Amsoil?

You dont know how many times i have posted same on Tacoma forum and this one. The biggest boneheads are the ones that post OTD less trade in. OTD is ok as long as it is clear that it is cost for truck only. Discount off MSRP is best for comparison because we can all see MSRP and it does not change region to region

A quick example. Here in Tucson AZ the sales tax is 8.7%. So on a $40.000 truck the sales tax alone is $3,480. The typical Doc fee is about $480.

So If one person in an area with no sales tax (lucky bastard) and a $75 Doc fee pays $41,000 (OTD) and the next guy lives where the tax is 7% and Doc fee is $300 pays $42,000 (OTD) for the identical truck, the second guy actually got a much better deal even though he wrote a check for $1,000 more.

Indeed. That's why I leave the taxes, title, etc. off any of my replies. I also paid those separately because I don't believe in paying interest on taxes! :p

I will be picking up my new Tundra in a couple of days.

    2020 Tundra SR5 CM 4x4 (White)
    Sports Package Plus
    SR5 Upgrade Package
    All Weather Liners/Door Sills
    Black TUNDRA tailgate insert
    Asking $52,863
    MSRP. $47,868
    Final. $44,665 + TTL

I'm in California so tax alone will negate my 3k down payment. Now for the 5k dealer mark-up I guess this dealership want the buyer to pay for his employees salary as well. 5k mark up with nothing installed. SMH

I know that the supply of Tundras is low right now but I'd walk. More of a personal thing than the price, I refuse to deal with any dealership that adds extra dealer profit margin to a vehicle, especially that much and on a common vehicle, Tundras are great but it's not a limited production Ferrari.

As much as I like shop around still, I'm in need of a vehicle starting August 9. This is the best deal I found so far for the color and package I want. I know what you're saying though, it's a shitty practice by the dealership.

No. I do a down payment/trade AND pay the taxes separately when they are due a month or so later.

Nope. Due within 60 or 90 days I think. I do it when I do the registration. Wyoming also extends the temp tags beyond 30 days. They know our counties are bigger than some states, so they give you more time.

Yeah, Wyoming is pretty lax on it, but we pay for it with registration costs. We are on par with Cali on that one. Anyway, :threadjacked: :sorry:

When i was travelling to In people were always complaining about the registration costs. They collect personal property tax at time of registration. Not sure if they still do.

The price of my truck was once $49k when I agreed to the deal. Somehow it went up from there... Currently the cost of the truck has breached the $70k mark.

    How does that happen?

Don’t take her when you go to the pick it up and have the wheels/tires in the back of your current vehicle. The dealer will swap em for ya and all is good. Not sure what to do with the stockers though lol

Is this a good deal? I got my 2020 SR5 4X4 Tundra for $68,721.59. This includes my trade in, tax, title, doc fees, as well as tags, oil changes, tires, gas, insurance, and car washes/cleaning supplies for the next 87.5 months. Interest was 0%, so nothing to add there!

It was Dublin Toyota, unfortunately almost all dealership in the Bay Area and Sac area are marking up 5 grand. That dealership even backed out from the deal so ended up getting it from another dealership. MSRP -2k rebate, that's the best deal I can find right now but I was able to get a better rate along with the rebate. To some it's expensive, to me I need a vehicle and I'm loving the truck so far.
