It appears that the 3 USB ports in my 2023 SR5 TRD Off-Road are for charging only. I don't like radio of any kind. I prefer to listen to what I want to listen to. I was able to get an old iPod working that I had no idea was Bluetooth compatible. Has anyone found a Bluetooth compatible single cd player? Thanks

Bob, it’s time to move on. Spotify, Apple Music, iheart radio, pandora etc. there is a plethora of good options. Futzing with a Bluetooth CD player seems a bit draconian and possibly dangerous while driving. I know, it’s hard to let go. Cars don’t have tape decks or 8 tracks anymore either.

Here I am thinking the 3rd gen is complicated enough you want to throw a CD player into the mix.

I also don't really listen to radio, Spotify the majority of the time. If you want something free, there are quite a few good options out there.

Or for less than the cost of one new album per month, you can stream any album on the planet ever made practically.

I have very unique music tastes, and an extensive library. I don't want to pay for a streaming service or sat radio. I don't like commercials, and I don't want to listen to what others think I want to hear. I also don't want to overload my phone, and living in central Maine, I am regularly outside of cell service. I get the digital thing, trust me. But there are times I want to hear something very specific. It's not a matter of not wanting to let go, it's a matter of hearing what I want when I want. I knew this question would morph into a debate as to the merits of physical media. We buried vinyl, now its back and in vogue. I actually liked and used an iPod for a long time. It was good technology.

And yes, the 2023 Tundra is confusing enough. But Bluetooth is not a big deal, and I don't see why we can't have a Bluetooth cd player. A memory card for my phone may be the answer as my iPod is a one and done at this point.

Taikowaza, thanks for taking the high road :) Unless I'm missing something, the Tundra has charge-only USB and no Aux port. So, while I can power an external device, I can't communicate with the audio system unless via Bluetooth.

I've been chipping away at a backcountry build-out and am now waiting for a cap/racks and deck/drawer system to finish it off. The cap and deck will be finished with carpet and the drawers filled with backcountry supplies. We are building a carpeted 60% rear seat delete as well so I have room for absolute dry storage and a dog. Should be done in a couple of weeks.

The legit struggle is the radio will likely try to connect to an external Bluetooth CD player, but request that you input a code to verify the device. The players do not have inputs for that sort of thing.

I suspect you're right. I was actually surprised to learn that my iPod was communicating via Bluetooth. I plugged it into the USB and assumed it was direct connect.

I'm coming off a 2010 FJ. It was not Bluetooth compatible. But it did have an automatic port that allowed an iPod to work. Problem was keeping it charged. I had to get a USB adapter for the cigarette lighter...

I am getting used to Google Maps as my dashboard navigation, and I actually like it better than my wife and friends dealer installed expensive navigation systems. Problem is I drop in and out of cell service. So, I keep my old Garmin in the glove box for when I'm off the grid.

Much of today's tech seems to be designed by folks who never leave the grid...

There should be one data port on the dash just below the radio screen on the right side that allows USB-A connection to the radio.

That is ridiculous! You can stuff like 100 songs on a cd using mp3 format! That's literally tech invented yesterday!

I have access to millions of songs on the small box I carry with me already everyday. Can even download them to have access anytime, cell service or not.

@BobM , I do still have my Garmin hooked up in my truck. Vast areas of the western US do not have cell service in the deserts, mountains, and canyons.

CDs sound better anyway. The convenience of digital has just overshadowed that for me.

Hell I was shocked the first time I got a truck without an ashtray or cigarette lighter. I don’t smoke, so it took me a while to realize.

My 2019 has a CD player, glad it does.

If I had my way, I'd install one of these:

The USB on the dash can transfer media. I have a USB thumb drive with about 20gb of music plugged in. Only problem I have is that sometimes the USB stick isn't recognized when I start up the truck. I have to unplug and reinsert the USB stick and reselect the USB stick from my audio input screen. I can't really determine a rhyme or reason for its dysfunction. Sometimes I get weeks off trouble-free use, and sometimes I have to plug it in every time I start the truck.

With many of these OEM setups, the brand and capacity size MATTERS. Some research into the optimal configuration is needed.

Formatting of the thumb drive is important. There is a thread around here on that. I have a 256 or 512gb thumb drive without issues.

Yep, I've used different thumb drives, formatted them differently, tried lots of different combos. It's not the only glitch I have with the head unit.
