I've always disliked the chrome bits on the grille and side view mirrors, figured I'd hit the badges as well because why not. Not sure how it will hold up, but the dip is super easy to peel if you don't like it. I ended up doing 5 coats, wasn't sure how I felt about the grille being all black so I peeled the body-colored portion.

I think that looks cool, works well with that colour. Good work.

Looks good. I also dislike chrome but I took a different route. I replaced my badges with newer style black ones and painted the grill badge with bed liner from a spray can. IMG_20191103_104309976.jpg IMG_20191103_103643955.jpg IMG_20191103_103449749.jpg IMG_20191103_103425666.jpg

I'm not a big fan of dip but I really like that look. I might have to change my chrome stuff up a little. I really like the way that grill looks.

Nice job man, I like it and think you'll be surprised how well it hold up as long as you have enough coats on it. I like how you peeled away the parts of the grill that are body color and just left the chrome areas black, I was thinking of saying you should peel those areas off when I saw the 1st pic, then I saw the progression of pics and you already did it. Nice work

Those chome areas looks like they would be pretty easy to wrap, with either black or something close to color matched.

@Tyler1524 Outstanding job! Although I am a chrome man, you did indeed put a broadside to my way of thinking. Well done.

My chrome grill on my 08 CM had two bubbles. It was annoying me enough to try to heat them up with a heat gun to see if it would smooth out. Instead, it made it worse. Im wondering if anyone knows what's under the chrome wrap and if it's plastic and if I can paint it. I was thinking of plastidip but if this chrome peels off it may turn out better.

With the right attitude, patience, materials, and time anything is possible. I would suggest you use an Acrylic Lacquer rattle spray vs. plastic dips.

Check my build page for some ideas or inspiration.

This is what's under the chrome that peeled. It's black plastic. Took 10 minutes to remove it. Im gonna finish it tomorrow

First gen grille strips arent quite the same. It doesn't peel off that way, if you sand through the chrome you'll find what appears to be a copper layer and there might be a nickle layer as well.

I sanded mine down to look like brushed steel long ago (after 2 failed paint attempts and a bed liner job that lasted 5 years before chipping).

This was completely by accident. I had a bubble and tried to smooth it out with a heat gun. It bubbled into more bubbles. A week later it had a little chip missing. I was planning on buying a replacement in black but then found plastic underneath the chrome. Now I'm just going to peal the rest which isn't hard and paint it
