Even though the motor sounds and runs great, I'm afraid to have this old 115,000 mile 4.7 engine screaming it's guts out on a dyno tune.
So, I ask if anyone knows of a good canned tune programmer from a mfgr.

Or, more so, know of a custom programmer who specializes with engine performance tunes for 1st gen 4.7 engines?
Someone like http://www.blueovalchips.net/ who is favored in the Ford community for his work.
Or like http://www.blackbearperformance.com/ who has good reputation for his GM custom tuning.
Unlike some custom tuners, the 2 aforesaid guys will make your ride scream w/o damaging the trans or blowing up your motor. They have their act together.

Actually found a few mfgrs canned tune programmers, but don't have a clue about them. My experience with canned tuners was with a SuperChips programmer. And it sure wasn't worth anything to write home about, but maybe someones experience with the following is different. What's your opinion on these? Thnx

Agreed, canned performance tunes from a mfgrs tuner is typically a dud due to being EPA compliant. They get your cash and you get a plastic casing with nothing worthwhile in it. But I also ask about these various canned tunes anyway because ya never know, respectable miracles can happen from these mfgrs.

Other option is to take the trk in for a dyno tune and stress the existing life out of a motor with 100,000 + miles on it, and afterward have it towed home for a motor rebuild.

The best choice to have is getting a tune from competent independent custom programmer for these older 4.7 engines.
Lotta people here with experience that know where to go for this service, and my eyes are wide open to read about it. Thnx people.
