All across this country. You get an easy way out today, you'll pay for the consequences tomorrow.

If you are talking about cursive and fancy writing then good, glad it’s dying. Hated that crap and never understood the purpose.

    Function before sparkle.
I prefer to think of my penmanship as a custom font.

The purpose was due to the writing instruments they had. Any lifting of the quill pen resulted in a big ink blob.

Cursive has been used less because most people don't use it. When is the last time you wrote a letter in cursive, placed a stamp on an envelope, and mailed it? Your grandmother doesn't count.

Most people use an email, text, or gasp....call.

A little FYI, people with dyslexia learn cursive in school still to this day.

    Cursive doesn't turn you on, @centex ?
There is nothing new under the sun, but I do feel like the wind has changed. I still sign my checks, yes. And I mail my payment letters every month.

With the advent of texting and smart phones, penmanship was the first treasure that has taken its toll in survival. I'm not saying it's bad to have good penmanship, but I do believe its purpose is yet to be excluded from our daily routine.

I think it's a skill still worth having, and hope younger generations don't completely abandon it.

Absolutely text/zoom/email and so forth is more efficient and perfectly acceptable for daily use. I think where penmanship can keep a seat at the table is special occasions. You know, when the message has some extra meaning and emotional connection between the writer and reader. Save your money from buying Hallmark cards, sit down and handwrite a note instead. Just two or 3 sentences from the heart, it doesn't have to be extravagant.

My ten year old granddaughter has taught herself how to write in cursive. She and her little friend use it as a secret code when passing notes in school. :)

    This is cute.

My wife and I decided we want our kids to learn it so we used the COVID home schooling experiment as an opportunity to add an extra lesson, and it worked. Wife still uses it at work (nurse) and my father-in-law was beyond thrilled when he learned what we had done.

Anyone remember the Billy Madison scene about cursive writing?

I can still write and read it just fine. My 3rd grade teacher drilled it into me. Probably why I despise it so much. But I could care less about using it or teaching my kids about it. I’m sure my wife will because she thinks it’s cool but she never writes in it either so why?

Wait, that's NOT how to write a cursive 'z'? Seriously...? Crap.

Also, cursive it hard; it makes me think ahead while I write, as well as focus on execution. Texting and ottokorrekct is awesome; it helps me reed good and rite good and do udeerly good great things good two..

All this tech stuff is great. I mean that.
But,.....too many people are dependent on how easy it has made everything. Things won't stay the way they are forever and the minute things get rough, most folks will be fkd.
Hopefully there's at least a few people left that remember how to write something down. Mainly to tell the story of how lazy and stupid humanity became and why most of them died when the volcano erupted. Or whatever other catastrophic global event that almost takes us out on a regular basis.
Difference between this time and last time is humans weren't all sitting around on their fat asses, ordering door dash or crying about how long their week is because they had to get off their couch, comb their hair and sit through a zoom meeting for 20 min.
Yeah, most of you won't make it if we get hit with another big rock. Or the sun burps and kills your cellphones.
And if no human is left that can write, hopefully someone left can at least figure out how to carve a picture in a rock or something. Probably not though.
    Yeah, we're pretty fkd.

Only in countries stuck in the 19th Century.

That shit was gone before they stopped teaching cursive in the UK. My 29 year old daughter has never written a check. And what's with the bloody fascination with faxing, how's about it gets put with the microfiches, rolodexes and Betamax videos where it belongs?

I haven’t written a check in probably 20 years. I’ve signed plenty of crap though and it’s definitely not cursive I use. Some bastardized version of print and laziness.
