The chrome plating on the rims of my 2016 Tundra is peeling off.
My warranty expired back in Feb of this year but I brought it to the attention of my dealer when I had my oil changed last month. They gave me the typical “it’s out of warranty” response and recommended I contact Toyota corporate. I went to the Toyota website and filled out a form and got a call back within a few days.
The rep asked some questions and said he’d get back to me within 2 days with a resolution. Much to my surprise, Toyota has agreed to replace all 4 rims at their expense. This certainly exceeded my expectations. If you have this issue, give it a try.

I've never seen chrome TRD rims. Have you?
Based on his signature I'd say they are the Louisiana Edition chrome wheels.
I believe they are similar to the chrome wheels I had on my Texas Edition.

These are the original rims that came with my Louisiana Edition Tundra. Not sure if they are TRD.

Scuba, have you had any issue with your Texas Edition rims peeling?

Mine did the same. I replaced them with black Rhino Traverse wheels.

Great to hear Toyota stepped up to the plate.
GM, Ford or Dodge wouldn't do that.

Wow! That’s really surprising they stood behind it. Good job calling them on it! Like they say, a squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Not that I saw. There was some pitting on the barrel of the wheel but I never saw flakes of chrome coming off like yours.
It honestly looks like yours are PVD Chrome not real chrome.
PVD is a cheaper way of obtaining a chrome appearance but does not last as long as true chrome.
Either method of coating has a lifespan dependent on many things like quality of the application process and climate that the truck lives in.

I see chrome peel on all sorts of wheels every single day.
I’m truly surprised Toyota did anything for you due to the nature of wheel coatings and the variables that come along them.
I got rid of my Tx Edition wheels recently. I am not a big fan of chrome.

Those are what some people at Toyota calls port wheels. Not installed at the factory but at some point between the time it left the factory and before it arrived at the dealer. Usually installed by GST, SET or others of the like.

The parts availability for port wheels seems to dry up quicker so I am surprised they warrantied all four for you. That is awesome.
