Have a 2020 Tundra that the radar cruise control works fine and the PCS has alerted occasionally but today when following a tanker truck had to stop suddenly manually, within a few feet of hitting it, when I would have presumed the PCS would have kicked in long before that. So is there a way to test the system ,without risking hitting something, to see if it works? Tested the cruise radar afterward and worked fine so I know the sensor is working. The sensitivity is set on high- longest distance. My understanding is the system is always on by default and you would have to turn it off manually for that trip.

You still have to stop manually, the truck isn't going to stop itself.

The pre collision system has nothing to do with automatic braking.......it is simply an alert (dash light and beeping) when it’s triggered.

    This is incorrect.

Just Monday, I found out it WILL SLAM on the brakes.
A lady was turning in front of me and, me being a human and plainly saw that the vehicle would be gone by the time I got there, didn't apply the brakes, well the truck thought I was going to die and slammed on the brakes. Much dislike.

I have had my truck since august 2019......PCS has alerted me multiple times and never have I experienced the truck automatically braking. Spoke to the dealership tech and told me it was an “alert system” when I got the sensor recalibrated. I wonder if different trim levels or model years matter......

If it’s like when the recall came out, they made people sign waivers that had lifts or wanted it off. I just wonder about legal drawbacks. If you hit some little old lady on the way to church and her lawyer finds out you disabled a safety feature that could have prevented it, he would be all over the lawsuit. People like to sue over anything. That’s why Toyota makes you sign the waiver.
