I printed off all the Tundra sales brochures. I am looking at the payload capacity for the 2013 to 2017 Tundra, 4.6 L, 4x4, DC, SR5. Why does the payload change by a couple hundred pounds? Peaks at 2015 according to the sales info. Of course the brochures dont match other websites. I need to be sure I get the highest payload year!

I believe they went to an industry standard, which was more stringent, therefore the payload rating decreased. Before the standard, everyone made up their own standard. :militarypress:

What year was the new standard adopted?
Towing stayed the same. Only payload changed!

Those are just generalizations. Every individual truck will have its own specific payload rating based on any bells and whistles that come with it, right down to the floor mats.

If they are generalizations, why would they vary year over year. I spec'd the same truck. Maybe the weight of the SR5 package changed each year?

A stripped down variant will weigh less than an SR5, which will weight less than a Limited/Platinum. There's also a lot of overlap on those bells/whistles, I don't think that trying to spec a truck from sales brochures is going to be effective, just frustrating. The "packages" that Toyota builds the vehicles with could change from year to year as well, it seems that the first couple years (2007-2009 SR5 for example) had features that the same SR5 in subsequent years (2010-2013) didn't. Another factor that may affect the payloads within your search criteria is that the model years that you're looking at covers what are generally referred to as two different "Generations" where there were body style and driver-train changes from 2013 to 2014 that may, to some degree, account for the differences in payload ratings listed.

Understood. Yet payload goes down for the same truck after 2015. Must be the weight of the SR5 options
