It's a pay view site in my end. I can't see the entire article.

I'm not sure if I'm okay with servicemen adopting the dogs that they served with. These dogs are trained for 1 job. I don't know if the dogs can ever be trained to civilian life.

I'm a pet owner and my pets are a big part of my life, but these military dogs are trained for a small number of tasks.

I hate that they are put down, but I understand the reasoning.

I'm sure I'm going to be flamed, but I understand we are allowed to express our opinion.

Please feel free to change my mind. I'm open to be convinced I'm wrong.

I can see where you are coming from. Most military service dogs are trained by their specific handler. He trained her while he was in and then they always deployed together. She was retired about the same time he was separating. She has converted to civilian life very well. She was a yellow lab that saved his team from a roadside IED. They were aired on national news when they were reunited after the adoption. Now he trains K9's for the sheriff's department.
