I'm guessing your talking about painting the chrome. I wouldn't paint over the chrome. Some people will say its fine if you do it correctly. For my end caps, I had all of the chrome sandblasted off and then had them painted. As for the bulge and grill, I bought a TRD Pro grill and bulge.

You say “paint”... do you mean YOU paint or A SHOP paints?

Do you mean “I have an air compressor and a paint gun”, or do you mean “I am going to buy some cans of primer and Duplicolor”?

If you wanted to do this with a gun, the correct way would be to sand, sandblast, or chemically remove the chrome. Then prep the metal, and then prime, shoot, and clear.

if you are more of a home garage arteest... sand the chrome to hazy so the metal will have some tooth for the primer and paint to stick. Get your cans of whatever product your using. Really get the metal clean. Wear gloves and don’t do this where dust or dirt or rain can get on your work. Follow the product recommendations on dry time and coats. There should be a primer step and then the paint. Products like duplicolor have a glossifier in them that rises to the surface for gloss. I have used it in the past and as long as you get the product on correctly it looks like factory color in my experience. I was using MGM (my previous Toyota, a Camry, was also MGM).

    Good luck!
