Paint scratches

I was walking out to my truck today and I noticed these scratches all over my driver door. I have no idea how they got there since I’ve been on quarantine for 2 weeks in my house, but they are not deep and do not catch my nail. Any recommendations on how to get these out without having to take it to a body shop?

Yeah man I’m just as lost.. it’s the most weird pattern like a dog scratched it or something..

 

Dog scratched will be evenly spaced as the claws remain the same distance apart. Also they would be in groups of 2,3 or 4 depending on how much claw got put into it. This is really weird patterning. Good luck, sorry this happened.

 

Almost looks like some one was leaning their back on your truck with one sole of their shoe on the paint. Or like the door was left open touching a bush while someone was inside it moving around.

 

Time to catch the detailing bug and buy a DA polisher and getcha some correcting cream and polishing compound. Plenty of guidance in the detailing section.

 

This might sound dumb, but when I lived in the high desert in California, I had a tumbleweed blow into my mustang door and it made almost the same scratch pattern. I used some clear coat scratch remover and it "hid" the scratches. It did not get rid of them completely but made them not so noticeable. Sorry this happened to you, hopefully you will get it figured out.

 

I am assuming that these scratches are fairly low on the door. To me, it looks like a racoon was scratching at your door. I know somebody else mentioned a lack of "pattern". But actually, if you look really close (especially on the left side) you actually can see a slight pattern in several of the vertical scratches. When a racoon smells food, they will do almost anything to get to it. I have seen that pattern before on a metal house door. Either way, you have some serious buffing to do. But, I would think about taking it to a body shop and having them buff it out. Anyway, good luck!

 

You can get a decent DA polisher at Harbor Freight, along with a few pads.

I have had great results just using Maguire’s Swirl X.

watch a few videos and start slow. Avoid panel edges. Once you get used to it, it’s fun and a very handy skill.

Maybe a raccoon, cat, or other animal saw its reflection and tried to attack the image of itself, just a guess based on erratic pattern.
