I have a white 2020 Tundra 1794. Garaged with only 3400 miles. Took it to the dealer for service and showed them the bubbly and discolored paint along bottom of doors. Apparently, it is the paint bubbling up under a rock chip coat. They told me they thought this issue had been figured out by Toyota, meaning it has been a problem for a while. Then they had me take it to a body shop for a full re-paint estimate. I am not happy, esp after spending over $50k for this truck. I don’t want a full re-paint. This is BS. I want a new truck.

Have heard that toyota has had some issues with white paint across their models. Guess it is still an issue.

hence why people who say white is the best/fastest color are kidding themselves. :boink:

white paint has been an issue on LOTS of vehicles. i'm not 100% sure, but i'm assuming it has to do with the chemical makeup and bonding with the lack of color pigments throwing off the bonding/adhering problems. in my personal opinion, asking for a whole new truck seems far fetched, but agree with your disappointment. at least they're trying to make it right.

13 years and it persists... I may be the exception, but I had to get both bedsides repainted as strips of paint flew off in a car wash... that was in 08... took it back, stealership had a body shop on site and they stripped it and repainted them...took all of 3 weeks and I got a Prius to cruise around with..

I would be asking for a free long term warranty on the new paint job.

Also this isn't the first thread about the paint issue at the bottom. A search for those threads might give more info on others experiences.

It's not just trucks. Wife has a 2012 Highlander with this same thing; we're talking to the dealership now to see what they/Toyota corporate might do.

Maybe Toyota just assumes all white trucks are work trucks and owners won't care about shitty paint? :notsure:

Well, my wife is pretty pissed right now. You should have heard her fussing out the Toyota Corporate rep the other day. It got to the point where he just repeated "I'm sorry..." LOL

I'm guessing the chip guard area isn't supposed to be textured on white vehicles. All the one's I've looked at look like a bad overspray pattern.

This could be. When I bought my truck I told the salesman I wouldn't buy white because I don't want random people asking me for bids to hang drywall when I'm out in public.

LMAO - I almost covered my keyboard in drink when I read this. Hilarious.

(I laugh because my previous truck was white *AND* I was routinely asked home improvement questions and for work when bringing stuff out to my truck from Lowe's. LOL)

It's not just Toyota's either. I've seen other brands with bad white paint failures.

    Testify!! The only real
solution would be some insulating panels like they used on the space shuttle for reentry. At least on the front and lower doors.
