I just bought a nice low mileage black 2017 sr5 with ugly stock steel wheels.

I am looking for some gloss black wheels, not easy to come by and I don't want to pay 360 per wheel.

Has anybody had the steel wheels painted and how did it come out? Pics?

    No bashing me please, ha.

A quick sand blast and paint can rejuvenate or change the look of the truck. Dupli-color even sells wheel paint and clear in a couple of different colors. Even just a quick scuff, playing cards in the lip and cheaper paint will do the trick. I've done the blast and paint to many sets of oem aluminum wheels and it makes the truck look like new.

OP in this thread: Has anyone painted/powder coated their steel wheels? | Toyota Tundra Forum (tundras.com) was inquiring about paint/powdercoat on his wheels but he actually had aluminum wheels. There's some pics in that thread to give an idea of what black powdercoated wheels will look like. Powdercoating steel wheels is perfectly safe compared to the probably safe, but seemingly endless debate, over whether or not powdercoating aluminum wheels (forged seem to be a bad idea) is detrimental to their soundness. If you've got steel wheels I'd look into local powdercoating shops and shop prices/turnaround time and get them powdercoated rather than painted just for the extra durability and probably roughly the same upfront cost. It also seems to vary wildly by locale on price for powdercoating/painting. Some people report paying as low as $50 a wheel to have them powdercoated while others report as high as $200. Anecdotally, my dad had his steel chevy wheels powdercoated black for $100 a wheel. Only downside is potentially having to leave your truck on blocks for a few days or even a week or more. Some shops are a one stop though and will put your truck on a lift, remove the wheels, powdercoat them and reinstall over the course of a day so you're not vehicle-less for too long. I'd expect those shops are a little on the higher end.
