All 3 chrome trims are clipped in to the surfaces behind them. They can be removed but due to age and heat from engine bay and sunlight the tabs that hold them in will be brittle and can/will break. I do bodywork and eventually will remove the trims and fill the holes. Sand it flat and then finish over the sanded area with a thin layer of body filler. our color is a very tough color for the painters I know to re create/match so if you end up doing any paint work you should take into consideration that the color will be off slightly.

I'm interested in doing this as well. You might check to see if there are any OEM limited grilles still for sale from the dealer in your color. There looked to be a few colors still available, but nothing in black for me.

Yes, you can remove the chrome, and it looks like shit after b/c there are horizontal holes all over the grille, which the tabs for the chrome pass thru to hold them on.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the chrome is also glued in place, and the glue is a major pain in the ass to get rid of, and looks like ass if you don't get every last bit off.

The long and short is this: If you manage to get the chrome off, then you manage to get every last drop of adhesive off, you're still stuck filling the dozens of holes, then sanding your part before you can finally paint it.

Do yourself a favor. Buy a new OEM replacement, hit your local junkyard or fleaBay for a used one, or find a parts truck on your local CL or www.car-part.com to buy.

Or, you can do what other folks have done on here and use vinyl wrap in a matching color to cover the chrome bits.
