    Hey all,

I did a quick search and didn't see much about paint protection film and paint coatings. I am getting some film and a revivify coating installed in a couple of weeks and I am wondering what others have done, and what they've paid.

For reference, I am getting the mustache, front bumper, side mirrors, all four doors and the black trim piece on the tail gate wrapped, and the entire truck coated in revivify for $3900.00.

What coating did you get and how many years is the coating good for? The coating part of mine was $1100, the film portion was $2800.

curious , when you all do these coatings an ceramics waxes are you all doing it on top of the Toyota platinum coating or maybe it is 3M coating for doors an hood ? or are you not getting the coating installed by Toyota i have heard mixed messages about the Toyota (I think 3M) film protection some say it is a waste of money doesn’t work an some say yes get it .. is there a definitive answer ?

Installed on a clean truck with no dealer applied coating. I would rather pay a shop that specializes in coatings and films than the more expensive, likely inferior product a dealer is doing. 3M film doesn't offer the hydrophobic properties you get out of the others. I have also heard more about yellowing from people who have 3M than many of the competitors. I can't speak to that from personal experience, but I have seen enough of it to steer away from 3m. 3M also doesn't offer more than a 7 year warranty if I'm not mistaken. The one I went with is 10 years. But I definitely feel personally it's worth the additional cost. Especially if you put a lot of highway miles, snow climates (road salt and chemicals), and deal with loose shopping carts at grocery stores.

Did the paint correction and ceramic coating myself on my last car and intend to do it on the Tundra if I ever get it. A good deal of work, took a few days total (although I enjoyed doing it), but you can save a ton doing it yourself.

I did that on the truck I traded in. The paint looked as good as the day I bought it, 8 years previous. I just don't feel like doing it again.

I had a local detailer do a ceramic coating. I worked in a body shop for a bit in high school and have painted a few cars over the years, so I'm familiar enough with the process. I spoke with the detailer about the process and quickly knew he didn't cut any corners and $1,500 was fair for the amount of work it takes to do the process correctly. He used Tsunami 7 year coating which came highly recommended by another friend of mine who is a detailer on Kauai (I live on Big Island).

The paint from the factory sucks and has orange peel over the entire truck, but thats a different story. The detail shop did a single stage paint correction to remove the halogramming, most likely from the dealer washing the truck wrong. The truck came out looking excellent and I was really happy with the detail shop I chose to do the ceramic coat. I also had them apply Glassparency to the windshield for an additional $125. Glassparency is a 3 year coating that helps beading and limits water spotting or etching.

Detailer shop also debadged the entire truck, which was included in the cost.

My opinion is if your doing a ceramic coat don't pay less than $1,500, ask a lot of questions and make sure you take it to a detail shop that doesn't cut corners.

For one, the condition of my paint when I traded in my 2014 was a direct contributor to my trade in value. Was it to the tune of $3900, no but it was probably at least $2000 based on what they told me was the difference between mine and the 2014 they were selling on their lot. To say you won't get a dime of that back is absolute BS it's literally one of the main data points listed for exterior condition of the vehicle on every valuater and dealer appraisal form. Secondly, I want my truck to look good, be easy to wash and be protected from the salt/chemicals and putting from the streets and highways here. Third, I've seen what a grand in PPF and Ceramic look like and I'll pass. Almost always looks like shit. Didn't ask for naysayers to reply with condescending comments. Asked what others have had done and spent.

If you didnt get more money for your car that has perfect paint vs one covered in rock chips, thats on you.

I guarantee the dealer you traded it to got more though lol
