P0717 Code on and off

I drive a 2012 Tundra and for the past couple months the CEL and TRAC OFF light will come on periodically with the code P0717 and then turn off eventually. Before I haven't noticed any drivability issues but this last time I have noticed that the transmission isn't shifting when it should. The first time I got the code in December I took it to the shop and they said they weren't seeing the code and when I picked it up the light was off. This same thing just happened to me where I took the truck to the shop and the guy is saying he's only seeing a code about the leak detection pump when just the other day I checked myself with and OBD2 and it was showing P0717. Has anyone else had issues like this? I don't know if I should tell the mechanic to go ahead and replace the speed sensor so that the code stops showing up.
