Yeah I understand being leery of them but I really want to have a big nav system for exploring. I have considered mounting a tablet around my dash to accomplish. I had my daughter hot link my cell phone to my tablet so I could use the tablet in the truck, but this would clear clutter. I am also looking to mount a GMSR radio. By the time I am done I think I won't be able to see out the windsheild.

I used to tinker with Android a ton - custom ROMs on my phone, etc. As I’ve gotten older, I find I want to spend less time dicking with (some) things and more time just enjoying things that work. My work has standardized on iOS for all company mobile devices, and so I (very reluctantly) made the switch about 3 years ago. I’ve got plenty of things to complain about (as a PC user trying to sync info across of it), but in the end, it’s so much less of a hassle to just have something that works and I don’t have to tinker with.

I’m one of the few that doesn’t “hate on” the JBL system in my truck. Yeah - it’s not going to win any awards, but it plays my music, has CarPlay (I realize your 2017 doesn’t), and that’s all I need. With CarPlay, I can use my Gaia GPS app (including offline maps I’ve downloaded), and stream my Spotify (including offline playlists I’ve downloaded). At that point, I’m perfectly fine with the 8” or whatever screen.

Same if I had apple play I probably be satisfied. So going with the telsa head unit my seem going big but then I could use app like Gaia and others.

You guys down in Portland/Salem be safe. Sounds like shit’s gonna get worse before it gets better as the transition starts.
We’ve got about 14” up here, and still below freezing so still snow as it falls right now.

We have at least 1.5” of ice. Took 45 minutes at least yesterday to get into the 4runner. Went to Safeway this morning. In 4 high no worries...shift into 2wd and barely tap the gas and sideways I went. I have to dig out the Tundra this afternoon so I can hopefully make it to work tomorrow morning.

The mist in the air here is transitioning to freezing rain. Thankfully a neighbor plowed our private road (~1 mile long) this morning.

We've stacked up about a foot of snow from these storms, more expected tonight.

According to my weather report, it's supposed to warm above freezing and rain starting Tuesday. Then 6 out of seven days of rain. Melt off plus rain? Things could get interesting around here.

At least around here, they're already warning of possible localized flooding. Time to bring out the raft.

It snowed solid until about noon and them started warming up. No rain yet, but you can already see things melting. Just waiting for the snow to all slide off my metal roof. That should be a fun noise about 1am.

Now for days of rain. I’ll be shoveling a channel to the street drains tomorrow afternoon. Good times

A lot of cars in Portland are covered with snow from the plows that plow the streets. Some of them are completely covered. It s a job getting them uncovered now because the drifts are coated with ice.

I found out the hard way that it s not safe to drive with snow on top of cab. I had about 5 inches of snow with about 1/4 inch of ice on top of that on the cab. At one point while hitting brakes the whole sheet broke loose, and slid right over the windshield. I thought it broke my wipers at first, but they still work, and fortunately it happened when no traffic was near me.

    1 or 2... I lost count
You have to watch out for large chunks flying off of other vehicles as well and hitting your car. I don't know how liability works for that either if something flies off of your truck. Just something else to be aware of.

This reminds of something but it's a bit different. Be extra careful being anywhere behind a semi on the freeway if you have to drive during this time. Often sheets of ice can slide off the trailers while driving down the road. They can cause some serious damage or even injury if they should hit you.

Did that once myself. I now clear the entire vehicle before driving. Scared the shit out of myself coming to a stop sign and everything on top of the cab covered my windshield. It was too much for the wipers. I had to get out and clear the window.

Well I’m becoming the guy that hates winter. This ice is freaking nuts. On top of the truck sliding down the driveway on Friday, last night my wife wakes me up at 10:30 and tells me one of the neighbors trees came down and is in our front yard. Sure enough one about 60-80ft came down and missed the house by about 2ft.

City comes to clear the road(only thing they are required to do) but stack this entire tree in my front yard. Like it’s my freaking tree.:frusty:

That sucks. I'd be bitching to neighbors and the city.

It's been snowing the last five days. We have about w feet now. And still snowing. So ready for spring to show up.

Oh I am. I’m calling the director in 15 minutes. Also have to go talk to the neighbor. Unfortunately I’m at work. So that part will have to wait till later. I asked the wife to go see what their plan for dealing with it is.

Forgot to add. I had an arm bushing fail already and a upper ball joint. Ended up tearing everything apart and put all new Garage Products bushings in so I shouldn’t have to mess with it again(or at least not a long time). And got some new wheels and tires.

Is it just me but it looks like Portland and the local ODOT is really doing a piss poor job clearing the roads. They knew the snow and ice were coming and not one news station showed any snow plows working. I-84, a major interstate going east out of the area, was closed. The freeways looked awful and still do. I'm glad I haven't had to go in to Portland for anything. The power outages are also unreal. You'd think they'd go with underground power lines with all the power outages the area gets. It looks a third world country when all this shit happens. Pathetic.

Not too bad!! It seems the new tires do a decent job of getting traction. They will really shine in the warmer months here.

    Food crumbs and dog fur
Sounds like you all are having some fun. I love having different seasons in the PNW, but this time of year I start to wish for Spring. Not quite there, but close.

My bro is in Austin. They got 5-6" last night and his kitchen water pipe is already frozen. Whoops

Houses in Texas are designed for heat and not the cold. Do they even have heat or just AC to the house? Been below freezing for over a week here it seems, only issue is outside faucet won't work to fill dogs water dishes. Otherwise no leaks, no frozen pipes inside. And tap water is extra cold. Wish it would be that cold with it's triple digits outside in the summer.
