Winter of 2008 is the reason I bought my first Tundra. 36 inches of snow over the course of about 5 days at my house.

Oh man! Thinking about that storm will cause me to drink. That was a super expensive day for me that ultimately left me technically homeless( thank god my entire unit didn’t deploy 2 days later) a $1300 dollar next day flight to SD, my CC info stolen.

Think airport scene from Tommy Boy lol.

But I still love me a good snow storm freak out in Portland. Just glad I’m not driving a low boy.

I don't remember '08 specifically, but it could have been just a snow fart in the Seattle area. I need retrieval queues. In '08 I was driving a Durmax. I do remember going up a big hill covered in snow that my wife who's normally GTG, said "um, are you sure?". Truck was a monster....man, I miss that turbo whistle. But I digress...

I guess if Sunday is a bust, you guys down south have something to look out for on Tuesday. Not that they can tell us what the weather is going to do tomorrow, but one can hope.

@Juanjoolio007 - Great question for commuter cars. I'm searching for a 2nd car right now and not really having any fun. I don't bother with CL for anything anymore. Been surfing the local dealerships, but they're smoking.

Yeah that was the “Snowpocalypse” expected event....and nothing happened. Like 3 days later I’m packing my stuff to leave my wife and 8 day old daughter with her parents so I can go to Afghanistan. It starts snowing. I call my bro to tell him it’s getting crappy and better leave. He leaves Gresham and it took him 11 hours to get to Beaverton(about 35 miles). I missed my flight. Spent the entire night arguing with the airline. Finally said F it paid their dumbass fees and got on the next plane out of pdx. Pissed my brother off since I didn’t fly out that night. Get to the airport the next morning and fly to SD. Call my shop asking where my ride is. Find out they just got out of formation and found out they had to cut our guys by 1/4. SUPRISE! I was one of them since I had a newborn. That’s a long story shortened a little bit haha.

My commute is about to go to 15k a year just for work. Not really wanting to put that in the Tundra for more then a year. I have a hard time believing somebody’s 95 Civic with 200k is worth 3x’s what trade in would have been a decade ago.

Might just be time for that Ducati I never got.

    But probably not .

That's crazy nuts. What a mess.

That reminds me of another storm that might have been in '08. Apparently local news sent out an alert saying "go home now". I didn't get the memo, but happened to be leaving work right then. I worked in Bellevue at the time and only needed to go two miles to get my son in daycare. The wife worked one block past daycare. Think that was about 4pm. The entire city dumped out onto the roads at once and it took me 2-3 hours to get down to the daycare. Wife had to walk down a steep, snow covered street to get the kid before we hit the time limit, then walk block to Burgemaster to grab some food. All in her healed work shoes. By the the time I got there, my meal was almost frozen and the kid was a mess (no surprise). Good times...pretty sure that storm cost me a new pair of heals for the wife.

I don't get the used car prices either. I was on the local Toyota dealership this evening and decided to look at Tundras (for no reason). Check this chit out:14CCA06F-8144-4A88-95C3-27F8147216EA.jpg
Granted it has low miles, but that's a two year old PRO not even in that year's special color. I paid way less than that for my 2020 in late 2019. Nucking futs!

That is crazy! I just checked mine and KBB middle of private party in very good condition says $47,363. If these prices are around next summer I’ll sell my lease before I turn it in. I want to say my buyout is like $38500.

Someone out east posted on the Lunar Rock Club thread a dealer asking $72k for a Lunar Rock TRD Pro. Freaking nuts.

George - your story certainly tops mine.
I was working out a Wauna (past Clatskanie on Hwy 30) and I remember seeing it start to come down. My wife called and said, “you should come home” and I was like “no - I need to get done with what I’m working on.” An hour later she calls again and says there is already 4” in the yard, and I need to come home. It’s about 60 miles to my house, roughly 1hr 15min to get home. That day it took 4 hours, and when I did get to the house my 2WD company truck made it all of 20 feet up my 750-foot driveway. I walked up to the house (we had over a foot by then), made two more trips to get all my shit out of the truck, and ended up hunkered down at home for 4 days before we could get out with my wife’s AWD CX-9 with chains on it (after using a come-a-long to slide my truck off to the side of my driveway enough to get past it). We stocked up on groceries, a snow shovel, and I looked (futile) for a snowblower, and we headed back home as it started to dump again. It was five more days before we could get out again - after I finally managed to find a someone with a 4WD tractor that could plow our road. That was the day before Christmas Eve - we got back into town for more groceries, then I came home and started shoveling off my roof. We were over 30” in the yard by then. I remember when I got done with the front side near dark, I stepped from the roof of my porch straight out (level) to the top of the pile I had just shoveled. One neighbor had already lost a barn to snow weight, and another had moved everything out of his because it was looking pretty sketchy. Then 6 more inches that night. Christmas Eve I got the back half of the roof shoveled. And then finally it started to thaw the day after Christmas and I was able to get my truck up the driveway about 12/27.

From about the third day of that storm, I started looking at 4WD trucks (work wouldn’t provide 4WD at that time) and settled on a Toyota Tundra. I’ve never looked back.

I’m assuming you were at the mill? Yeah it was crazy for everyone. I remember watching the news and watching the bus’s slide sideways down 26 back towards the tunnel. That was back in my diesel days. I had an f250 tuned, geared, etc....sitting in an indoor storage unit that I couldn’t get out for my wife to use while I was gone.

The thing that got my gears grinding the most was the insurance on my flight. I didn’t get it back because planes were still flying...the lady actually told me that if I died I could file a claim to get my money back.

I have always been happy with our Toyota’s in the snow one 3rd gen Tacoma Trd OffRoad, 2 5th gen 4runners and both Tundras.

Also I would love to get that much snow...now to be truthful I would like at least a day to stock up on some essentials first though.

Yep - working construction out there. Don’t remember which project...might have been the #7 Paper Machine. About every other year, we get a good 8-10” up here at my house. Enough to sled our driveway and give us an excuse not to leave (trying to get someone to plow our private road is a pain, so we usually don’t bother). That year was excessive...the only time I’ve had more than that in such a short time was growing up in North Idaho. But it’s a much different snow there...

All this snow talk is making me itchy for some snow. Not that my family is ready for another few days without power, but I'd love some time to go blast around in the stuff.

Heck, we were going to hit Leavenworth this weekend for sledding and brauts. But the roads are bare, so there's no point. Grr....

We’re probably only going to get 1” each night out of this storm which will melt the following day. I would really like about a foot of snow so the grand kids can get some sledding!

I was going to ask if you use the cup of water with a penny on it technique to monitor your freezer temp in power outages the last time...but since you already had no power it’s to late for that.

Never heard of that, but I’d actually been pondering a technique like that for just this kind of thing.

So a small cup of frozen water with a penny on top? If you find the penny at the bottom of the cup you know stuff melted?

I’m going to try that. We had bags of ice in two of our freezers, so it was easy to tell what was too warm just by the state of the ice.

F.*.c.k. that - $83k for a pickup truck. Of course, my boss recently dropped 73-ish on a F350 Tremor and proceeded to drop another 6 or so in different wheels, tires, running boards, and a weight distributing hitch for it. But he also tows a massive boat and likes to do 75 over mountain passes while doing so. :notsure:

This guy is a bit annoying but I've seen a couple of his videos on the ol' Youtube. He has good advice on buying a vehicle and what you should and shouldn't be paying. Msrp vs Invoice, fees you should never pay etc..

LOL, I made it about 2 min and then called it quits. That dude is annoying.

So, I'll admit I did learn a few things on those vids. My ego was all "Pfft, whatever" until @Juanjoolio007 said he learned something. Then I decided to stop being an azz... First, I learned that the "phuk off" look I've given salespersons over the years on that various up-sell crap was valid. I don't need to have guilt on that. But also, I never thought those pin strips only cost $30. Granted, it's probably $75 in our inflated market here, but those are often priced at $500 to the consumer. Dang. The trade-in value was the most educational video for me.

Anyway, I'm playing who-will-flinch-first on a Nissan Leaf. My son is 16 and we will need a 2nd car as soon as he's got his DL. If you've seen my other posts on the forum, my bro has a 2016 RavR hybrid with 26k miles that he's looking to trade in once his divorce is final (Fresh Start!). I'm a spreadsheet nerd, so I'm comparing that against a new 2020 Leaf with a chit-ton of cash on the hood from Nissan and the Fed. I'm guessing my bro will cut me a sweet deal on his rig, but I'm kinda liking the Leaf. Test drove it a few weeks ago and it was amazeballs. Add in Inslee's (WA's Governor for the OR peeps) request for a $0.18 increase in gas tax plus whatever carbon tax comes out of DC in the next four years and an EV is looking pretty smart. Not sure it can offset a killer deal on the Rav4, but I'm going to play the game anyway.

We'll see what happens...I'm wanting the Leaf, but I'm a geek for new cars. You guys know how I like a good road trip, so visiting my bro in TX, getting some real BBQ and then road tripping back to WA sounds pretty...religious...too.
