About 2 years ago, I took my Tundra in for a run thru my Toyota dealers car wash. ( Only used the free Toyota car wash twice in 5 years ). After retrieving ( the porter drives the vehicle thru) my truck at the exit of the car wash building, jumped in and exited the dealer onto the main road. I noticed my radio wasn't working, at the same time noticed my antenna was sitting in the back seat. So the next available parking lot I got out and screwed it back in. Over the next few days the radio / GPS would turn off and reboot. Takes about 30-45 seconds to finish starting up.

Since then, a few times a month the radio / GPS will go blank, and restart itself. Sometimes it's once a month, other times its 5 times over a one hour period of travel. Gets annoying at times. During my service appointments I have mentioned this to the service writer, but unless it stays "off / blank screen" there is really nothing they can do....

It worked fine till that day it was run thru the car wash and the antenna left in the rear seat. So 3 years of uninterrupted radio / GPS use, then run thru car wash. Now 2 years of "very intermittent" radio issue. It will just go blank as if you just started up the vehicle.

Anyone else have this issue? ( 2014 Tundra Limited ) Yes, I have re-screwed in the antenna again and used a small wrench to "snug" it up a hair. No difference.

Have the same issue with mine. I would be confident in saying it’s not related to the antenna being left off. There is a fairly known issue with these radios on the 14+ models. If you search for “radio issue” “restarting” etc. you will find a couple of threads specifically on this. Some have had the dealer load software updates and been fine, others had to get a replacement. Hope this helps.

Thanx....Do know if there is a "Service Bulletin" for this issue? Next time I take it in I'll have to "push" the service writer "harder" to investigate this issue. It becomes annoying when your traveling (RVing) and your relying on the GPS part of the radio to help navigate your next route change, and the radio shuts down. I do have an extended warranty...

I’m not sure if there is or not. On mine a few things that make it do it’s thing are doing voice-text, running music through Bluetooth instead of usb and FaceTime on iPhone. Doesn’t happen all the time but it is more frequent doing that. Also, may want to ask about software updates and explain the issue. Guarantee they aren’t ignorant to the problem. I thought about just videoing with my phone to see if I could get it to do it and then showing that to them. May help with the discussion of they can’t “replicate” it

When I first bought the Tundra Jan. 2014, I noticed the copyright date on the GPS software was like 2008. That explains when I drive down some newer streets, it doesn't show up. So I asked if there was a software "update". Yes, said the service manager $250....What? I just bought it last month, and it didn't come with the most up to date GPS software? I'm going to have to be more aggressive in my next service appointment. Planning another Alaska trip next summer, and it would be nice if the GPS stayed on...
