Oil pressure - what’s your reading?

I have a 2022 hybrid that I bought new a couple there ago. Been watching all the recall stuff and reading as much as I can about it. I only have 12,000 miles on my truck as I work from home and just don’t drive much.

Anyway, on to my question. Since new, my oil pressure gauge has never gone past the first 1/4 marker. Is that the normal operating range? I looked around in the manual but it wasn’t much help. The pictures that show the gauge show oil pressure right in the middle of low and high. Curious if my engine really does have low oil pressure or if others see the same in their trucks?

I believe that’s the normal now. If not someone will post different.

When you first start your engine it will read about 1/2 way or higher until it reaches operating temperature than a 1/4.

Once operating temperature is reached, mine stays just under 1/4 if under 2200 RPM.

As the RPM climbs upward of 2200 RPM, the oil pressure will increase somewhere between 1/4 - 1/2 on the gauge.

    That's how my truck reads.

Mine also sits normally just under the halfway mark and I have been running 0W-20 oil as well. Been this way since I picked it up new. When I really hit the pedal, it can get it up to 3/4 but it drops back down when staying at constant speed.

Interesting to see the diversity. It's hard to know how precise the gauge is. Would be more helpful to have numbers to compare. Appreciate everyone's response in reporting. I just started wondering if my reading was lower compared to others. I have had two oil changes done at the dealer with the standard recommended oil weight. And it never seems to fluctuate with driving or on first start up. I'll try to pay attention, but seems like it has never budged from that 1/4 mark.

I think my 2024 sits just under half, but who knows how accurate it is. I think there was an update that adjusted it to sit closer to half so it’s more or less a dummy gauge.

There was a TSB to fix this or software update. I had the same problem, oil pressure gauge always read low. Took it to dealer now it sits right below a half at idle, higher for higher RPMs. That was 20k miles ago. Sitting at 50k now. 2022 SR5

I just went for a ride, interesting findings. First, what trim/display are you guys looking at? SR5 is different than Limited for example. If the upper trim ‘multi display’, are you looking at the oil pressure on the left below? The right is the trailing temperature view. I guess.
The trailering view seems to stay static, at the highest temp achieved.
My regular pressure view, to the left, definitely fluctuates. It never goes below 1/3 and there under normal load. But when given gas it goes up to 3/4.
Pic 1 truck is off. Notice trailer view retains highest mark from last running. Also notice zero oil pressure since truck is not started.
Pics 2 is truck idling. Notice left hand at about 1/3. It only goes to 3/4 with a heavy foot. I’m on original oil.

You appear to be in the normal range. My truck is the roughly the same. The oil pressure showing no pressure is when the engine is off and under battery power on a hybrid. I wouldn't worry about it. If it shows fine on the dipstick, I believe you're good to go.

Yeah mine seems normal, what I’d expect. I’m wondering if the folks with gauges that don’t move are reading the temp gauge by mistake. Or perhaps if the analog gauges are the difference.

The 2023+ MY has the updated software so they usually sitting under half mark. The 2022, if you haven’t had updated software, was sitting just under the quarter mark when the oil was up to operating temperature before the TSB update. I had the software update done cause my fuel gauge was reading incorrectly and the oil pressure gauge was sitting under a quarter. Now the oil pressure gauge sits just under half.

It’s all normal. I’d be concern if it shows nothing at idle or it doesn’t move when accelerating. You can have dealer update the combination meter software. Just show them the TSB and your oil pressure gauge at idle and should be under warranty.

2023 1794. Cold start at 70°. 0W20. When at operating temp, 1/4 at idle and just under 1/2 at 2000RPM or cruise speed.

Mine is a 2022 platinum hybrid. Reading the oil pressure gauge on the bottom left. Sounds like what I’m seeing is normal, although I am going to check if it fluctuates while under load etc. I tow my boat all the time and still cannot ever recall seeing the gauge move (unless as stated above the engine turns off to use the electric motor - then reads 0).

Thank you - super helpful. I just picked up the truck yesterday as they replaced the squealing brakes. Wish I had them do this at same time but not a big deal. I’ll ask about it next time I’m in.

Yes. That is why I italicized the words ‘temperature’ and ‘pressure’. And in my second post wondered if folks might be confusing the two… the little symbols are similar.
