I took a beautiful, 2 owner, meticulously maintained 2007 TRD Limited CrewMax 4x4 with 200k into the dealership for a pre purchase inspection and they found 2 things. Noise from transfer case and minor oil leaks at cam towers, timing cover and valve cover. The owner rarely used 4wd and I hear that if you don’t use it stuff fails. He offered to fix/replaced with warranty covered used part, on his dime. The leaks are not drips, they are seeping. Toyota tech says minor… clean between oil changes and keep an eye on em. Or shell out 5k to replace everything. There is no oil hitting the ground or burning off the heat shield. He isn’t loosing oil between regular 5k services. Excellent service history at the local dealership all the way back to new BTW. I trust that he didn’t know these were issues. I negotiated a better price and agreed to buy it once the transfer case is fixed.
    Am I crazy?
My plan is to keep an eye on oil levels and visually inspect regularly and not worry too much about it.
I drive 10k or less a year, occasionally tow a boat and sometimes do Lowe’s runs.

You are not crazy. Unless the cam tower leaks get worse and you do want them fixed. Then it’s $5k in today’s dollars. Or maybe it’s $7k 5 years from now. Most don’t get past seepage, and remain a non-issue. Transfer cases aren’t near as expensive to replace, but good idea to have the seller include that in the sale.
