Just curious to know, for any of you that change your own oil. Do you change your filter every change or every other? I changed mine out last oil change about 5k ago. I use mobile 1, which claims to have a filter life of 10k miles. Usually I do both oil and filter every time but it’s cold and rainy now, and I’m feeling a bit lazy to drop the skid plate for access.

:rofl:My line for that is “That’s like taking a shower and putting the same skid-marked ginch back on afterward.” Strangely similar.

If you were going to change anything more often, it would be the filter. The opposite. Change the filter every 5k, oil every 10k, for example.
However, I would change both every 5k.
If you're having your oil tested and they say it's still good out to 10k, maybe squeeze it out to 7500 safely, if more frequent changes are inconvenient.
You're a new member and this is a new thread, so you may not be aware of what this thread is inevitably going to become. Before that happens, I just want to say that a lot of people have their oil tested and the results suggest their oil will easily continue to perform well out to 10k. But this is about filters and I would never feel good about running a filter for 10k. I don't care if it cost $200 and has racecars on the box.
So, just do 5k changes, both oil and filters and recycle your used oil.

I've heard of skipping filter replacements on train engines (many years ago) but never passenger vehicles. For $4-5 I'll go ahead and change the filter every time.

It is time for seasonal fluid change: beer to brandy/port. I tend to run heavier mechanic fluids November to April.

I don’t see any issue at all with changing just oil at 5k

10k oci is fine - so just doing oil at 5k is even better

    I got 300k on my
Tundra and it saw 10-11k oil changes its entire life

Or if you want another choice you can go with ours, for $225 with our black Fridays sale for 10 gauge powder coated steel, and our 1/4" aluminum option is $305.99.
    • We provide better coverage.
    • It is a two piece design for more strength and to make it easier to install, or remove if you need to get in there for maintenance.
    • Still has access hole to drain the oil, and a filter access door.
We also strongly recommend a Fumoto valves to make the oil change easier. The one I like best is the version with the nipple on it that you can attached a hose too. It is the only way I have been able to do a mess free oil change. This is a example on a 4 runner i found on the internet, but the concept is the same.

As far as changing the filter ever oil change, I do on any truck I own.
