Was checking my oil and noticed that the end of the dip stick has some kind of black fiber looking stuff on the end. It had more on it the first time I pulled it out . I wiped it off and put it back in and pulled it out for the second time and it still had a little on the end. The pictures are from the second time. Not sure what this is? Maybe left over towel fibers from the last oil check? When I wiped it off there was nothing stringy in the paper towel just clean oil with a little black from whatever that is on the oil stick. Has anyone else noticed this? I assume it is just some sort of residue from inside the oil dip stick tube? Any feedback is great. I have OCD and this sort of stuff worries me lol. Also my oil level is not too high, the oil just ran down the stick while I was trying to get a good picture .

Only about 2,500 miles ago… I did check the oil yesterday with a paper towel and I didn’t notice anything on here yesterday so I’m wondering if it’s left over from the paper towel I used yesterday ?

How does the oil smell? I’m kind at a loss and would lean toward left over paper towel fibers.

Did you touch it and put it on something and take real good look at it?
Get a magnifying glass and really get a good look...

I wouldn't worry unless you find that stuff again, truck runs great I assume.

    Sounds like a nothing burger
A 5.7L isn't gonna be stopped by a tiny piece of paper towel, it will burn it up and ask for more
Oil looks good, Engine is happy

Precisely why I'd recommend licking the dipstick clean before inserting for the important oil level check.
