2013 Tundra, 82,000 miles, synthetic oil, I thought it would go 10,000 miles between changes, but the garage is saying 5,000. Does that make sense?

Yes. Do not believe anything the oil company is telling you or what you read advertised. Synthetic or not, ALWAYS follow the suggested vehicle manufacturer interval!

It makes sense to the garage who makes twice as much on oil changes if everyone comes in twice as often. I have just over 260k trouble free miles on my 2010 Tundra and have been doing synthetic changes since day one at 10k intervals.

My father in-law is a retired Toyota mechanic and his 06 Tundra with over 400k hard miles of hauling and trailering his camper and quads does synthetic changes every 10k miles as well. That's all the proof I need that 10k synthetic changes are adequate for long engine life. Jiffy lube would have you believe every 3k miles is necessary

I have 309 on mine and I've changed it every 4-5k. So, maybe I'm the dunce. I also work in a shop and I maintain the shit out of my vehicles by doing my services early and often. If it works for you, cool. I just have seen too many times what not changing oil often enough can do so I can't, in good conscience, recommend doing so.
