Been around here long enough to figure out there are plenty on here smarter than I am. I am sure someone here has had the problem or can figure it out.

When I change my oil filter. I take the center cap off the housing and the filter drains right then. Does not need the plastic valve threaded in.

Any ideas on what could be wrong. Would be nice if it worked as it should to help keep my hands clean.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

When you take the center cap off, you shouldn’t have oil come out. The spring loaded plug must be stuck. Look on here for the instructions on how to disassemble it, it’s easy. 2 tabs and turn and it comes apart. Look for aluminum housing swap. There is a kit, search for it on here, that brings a funnel that screws on to the oil fill, a metal screw on drain valve and the filter housing wrench. The kit makes it a lot easier and way less messy.

If you remove the tower there is a spring and a metal sealing disk under it. Mine does not seal completely either and I get some drip when removing the cap with the o-ring on the bottom. If you have a lot of flow either you have some debris trapped under the disk or it’s missing. Post a pic next oil change.

I don't even bother with that silly little plug, its stuck on from some gorilla that tightened it last. Turning the center turns the whole thing, using rubber disposable gloves is a must and makes it "Easy Peasy", just did mine before the temps dropped...

If that bottom plug is over tightened it’s a nightmare trying to remove it. It should be barely hand tight and it’s perfectly fine.

I have left it in before, but it makes a heck of a mess…that’s for damn sure.

In my experience when it’s installed properly (DIY) it gives me zero problems in the cold or heat when removing.

Put it in a vise next time it’s out to pop the center cap out.
Mine was stuck when I bought the truck but not anymore.
Sure it’s just as easy to unscrew the whole thing but it is much messier.
