So I took "Blue Berry" to the car wash today because she was looking dirty and when I came out of the car wash, and while drying her I noticed a piece of what looked like some sort of blue insulation that came out from around my front headlight. It was partially in the space between the body and headlight and mostly hanging out (See picture).

So I was like crap, what the hell is this, and why did it come out from just the car wash, and this is a new truck so again what the hell!! What happened to Toyota quality and I am thinking to myself I don't have time to get to the dealership today for them to fix it so should I just shove it back inside. I mean it matches the paint exactly so it must belong there along the edge of the headlight. So I call my dealership and explain that I just brought BB through the wash and now some piece of foam insulation is hanging out. They are like uh, ok, hmm, you want to just bring it in so we can look at it. I explain well I am not sure what to do if I should talk to the car wash people and put some sort of report in with them, or should I just let it be and bring it to you when I can and shove the piece back in. So she puts me through to some guy, a service advisor I would assume. He says well I don't know what that could be without actually seeing it or what needs fixing so why don't you make an appointment. I loose him so I explain this whole story when I call back and make an appointment, and the person tells me just shove it back in the area so you don't loose it, and oh "I would say talk to the car wash people too since it could be their fault for having high pressure". So before I went to speak with the car wash guy I shoved the whole thing back into the space between the body and the headlight and it fit perfectly and then I checked the headlight to make sure it still worked figuring maybe this is to keep water or something out.

I walk over and talk to one of the nice workers and show him the picture and the area. He looks at the other headlight and starts laughing.... I was like what? He is like the other headlight doesn't have "insulation" and I have never heard of that. He then says, but we do have foam "nerf" like washer things in the car wash that look exactly like what is in your in your picture and unfortunately they happen to match your paint perfectly. I was like please, no... He was like would you like me to remove the piece of foam car wash parts you just shoved into your headlight. I was like, umm, yes, please do that... I am just going to go hide in the corner now from embarrassment, and that is after I call the dealership to tel them to cancel my appointment since the "piece" was part of the carwash and not the vehicle. I guess I should just be thankful I didn't show up to the dealership with car wash foam shoved in my tail light looking for a repair!

I'm glad it was a happy ending. That would've freaked me out too.

Man, don’t use those nasty car washes if you want to keep your paint looking good.

I have no choice right now because we are in the midst of a bad drought so there is a complete water ban, except for garden watering. I figured it would be better than leaving her a mess.

That is funny! But stop using machines.

I taught my wife the 2 bucket wash method for her new black Tahoe. And it’s all I use year round on the Tundra. I use Optimum No Rinse. My paint still looks like brand new. I won’t take it through a machine. Period.

I started using this wash method on a vintage 1960 VW I restored and painted with single stage paint. The paint still looks like it did after I painted it in 2013.

Here is a link to the product I use:

And a link to an instructional on proper use of the two-bucket rinseless wash method:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVAxphcgKnY

With Optimum No Rinse, you can wash during a drought. I can have my truck done in about 15 minutes minus the wheels and tire wells. Add 10 minutes for those, and do them at the very end.

In the video, he uses a hose to rinse before washing. You’d only need to do that if you had caked on dirt.
