I'm an admitted technophobe, I still write checks. I don't have the self discipline to review online bank statements every month to ensure that deposits/transfers are accurate, so by paying with check and keeping a paper ledger helps me keep track of spending. The only thing that is autopay is our mortgage, which is from an account for that purpose only.

I set up a spreadsheet that shows everything I owe. I only have the phone bill auto deduct and only because they give me a $20 discount for using it. I've been using it for a couple of years. I enter my balance at the start of the week and pay anything due that week at the same time. It calculates everything for me.
I ballpark $200 for groceries and out of pocket spending each week. If there is anything is wonky from that estimate the next week I'll look closer to see if there is a mistake.

I grew up in a small town just before the technology boom, my HS typing class was on a typewriter. I went through college using a word processor. I work in a field where I can scrape by with minimal computer skills, which pretty much amount to answering emails and daily work narratives. I couldn’t put together spreadsheet if I tried. And at this point, I couldn’t be bothered to learn. Sad thing is I’m only 43.

Nahhh....if I’m going to be on a computer, it’s going to be to look at Tundras or other recreational activities. Besides, I like being a dinosaur

We still write a few checks a month; mainly for the yard crew, and what ever our High Schooler needs for school / sports activities. We still get paper bills but schedule payments thru our Credit Union Bill-Pay website. I do not like the idea of company / utility having access to draft from our accounts.
