I can’t make up my mind, this video makes sense from what he’s talking about and he has a lot of experience. The question is, what’s better off-road, wide or narrow tires? I’m nearing that time to buy wheels and tires and want to make the right decision, I might go with a 33” tire on 17’s, more sidewall good clearance and not too wide not too narrow. 35’s would give more clearance and air down more but I don’t think I need all that. There’s plenty of off-roaders here so let’s hear your input.

Depends on definition of off road - dirt trails, rock crawling, sand, mud. Different tires are better suited for different types of terrain. Where are you planning on going off road?

295/70 is a good compromise. tall and skinnier than 35"s Not much to trim/cut and not too heavy so less stress on components. still plenty of sidewall to deflate.
    I had 33's before I got 295.

@timsp8 I agree with you but not a specific type of terrain for me but more of anything I want. I get your point different tires for different purposes but no one has that much money to always switch depending on terrain, I’m mindful of compromises like an MT is not practical for a daily. @TheBeast, I’m thinking 285/75/17.

You're over thinking it. Just get whatever size you like and looks good. Your knowledge and driving abilities outweighs a tire being a little wider than another. Pick what height you like, then pick what width you think looks good. As dude said in that video, there are a million and one variables that affect the tire and what the "best" setup is.

Rule of thumb, taller is better. Sure you can argue that things like CG are increased, but for what we're talking about here, more height is more ground clearance, more room to air down, less chance of bending the lip of your wheel, less chance of dragging your wheels, etc. Go tall, width is personal preference imo.

Nice input @snivilous, so many variables affect different aspects. Tall and skinny is definitely the way I’m going, sad thing is there aren’t many tall skinnies on a 17” wheel. 285/75/18 is nice too, I agree, some things I’m overthinking. Only other input is depending on what tire size you go, if you air down you lose clearance, I guess 35’s are good for that as you don’t lose too much clearance. Sorry, overthinking again

Just get 37s and a supercharger, then it's all good.

You need to watch Rat Patrol..that is what my old man used as a reason to not buy me big fat tires back in the day! Those guys cruised all over Africa with the skinniest tires known to man!

@Kerch71 haha, that would be awesome but the older I get the more I’m like,”I really don’t NEED that”. Thanks @jeremyd, good looking trucks there. Skinnies have more advantages than wide tires @gratefuljed, you’ve got a wise old man.
