OEM Air Filter Size Difference

I just purchased an OEM air and cabin filter from my local Toyota dealership. I gave the parts guy my VIN number for my 2018 tundra SR5 to make life easier. The filter I received (17801-YZZ15) was about half the of the filter I took out (17801-OP100). Did they change the part number and size of the filters?

The filter does fit so I guess I’m ok for now.

 

I had same issue. I'm not positive about the part numbers. But the new filter will fit but is about half as thick. I'm good if it's the official new part. I will be watching to make sure I'm good. It was almost 10 bucks cheaper so I'm happy with that.

Also WIX 24483XP works great for cabin.

 

I’ve tested a bunch of different air filters under extreme conditions, Wix did not do well, probably the worst. Few others did also, same results. OEM Toyota filter performed noticeably better than anything else.

 

I would buy OP100 if I can.

Out of engineering curiosity: what did you do for your test and what did you see? Also this filter model exactly? Filtering media didn't look bad at all in it. I saw bad air filters, yes.

 

Anytime you receive a part that has YZZ in the P/N you are getting Toyota's economy line. With some parts it is the only option as with the oil filter right now. But for air filters you can still get the original and should request it as it is much larger. Brake pads are also a part where you never want the YZZ P/N and if they hand it to you walk out the door if that is all they offer.

 

Do you guys know if you can get the OEM from Rock Auto for example, or do you have to get 'em from the dealer?

 

Factory-equipped air filter in my 2019 SR5 TRD Offroad had a prefilter glued to it. The rubber seal was orange, not black, like OP100 has. I wish I took a picture of its part number, but I did not. Anyone knows the number?

How was this tested? Over the years, I’ve read a few tests and Wix came out near the top in flow and filtration in all.

 

That is interesting. By anecdote I recently put a WIX in my truck out of lack of any other option, and I swear I lost 15 hp.

 

Interested in how this was tested... Though I guess it doesn't matter as I've always used the fat OEM air filter

 

So everybody in in agreement that the newer thinner filter is in fact the replacement filter for the Tundra?

I guess same thing goes for the more red oil filter too.
