Hey folks new member here but I’ve spent lots of time scowering this site.
When I start my truck in the morning when cold it makes a terrible loud clicking noise when cold and goes away after warmup. Video attached in link for reference. Any suggestions?? Really wanna get this fixed, sounds awful. Trucks a 2013 with the V8. Has about 96k miles. Oil levels are fine etc.

Sounds like thermal expansion of something outside the engine. Maybe Exhaust manifold, etc.

I've been wrong before but guessing since V8 engines are considered to be relatively new @96K miles ... lol

How cold are we talking about? I mean ambient temperature. How quickly you hear the sound and when does it stop (minutes)?

Btw, I'm sure someone will tell you to use a "thicker" oil.

    That IS pretty loud!

Sounds like something outside the engine to my ear. Are you able to see or feel any damage to your fan blades (while not running of course)?

Almost sounds like one of the engine accessories is quite loose and flopping around. Might be worth removing the serpentine belt and shaking all of the pulleys to confirm if any are loose.

Sounds like a rotating assembly noise to me. Fan, bearings, belts etc. could be (gasp) timing chain related as well, chain or tensioners. I would pinpoint it before driving it much. Any clues when looking under the hood? Noise is in the front VS the back of engine compartment? Speeds up with rpm increase? Any visible loose or wobbly parts? Good luck with this. Also, your truck sounds more like a diesel running than any 5.7 I’ve heard yet. It’s a common complaint, but yours is really pronounced in that video.

It typically only makes this noise when it’s below 40 degrees. It usually stops after a few minutes. If it’s in the negatives it takes about 15-20 minutes. As soon as the engine gets a little warm it just stops. It certainly sounds like it’s somewhere between the radiator and the engine. It doesn’t speed up with rpm. It’s actually quite random but never sounds like it gets louder. I will dig into it today. Thanks for the suggestions!

Update: this morning I tried to spin the radiator fan and it made that noise and the clutch assembly completely let go. Truck purrs like a kitten again but the fan always runs. Have a clutch assembly on order from Toyota and will be replacing myself Saturday. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and help. Hope this helps someone else.

second update: replaced it and problem went away

    Excellent!

Very happy to hear this is on the cheaper/easier to replace side of things.
