So my dealership had to do an ECU reset Several weeks back on my truck. Before it went in for its issue there were no flags on my OBD two scanner. After they did the ECU reset I wouldn’t get a code on my scanner but I kept getting a flashing EV on my obd2. I kept telling the dealership they needed to do a drive cycle so finally they relented and did a drive cycle. When I picked it up yesterday after them completing the drive cycle I plugged in my scanner And now do I not only get a flashing EV on the monitor status, I get a flashing C, a flashing to a, a flashing oh, and a flashing CH.

I immediately went right back into the dealership to ask what the heck was going on. They took me around into their workshop and plugged in their actual Toyota computer to the truck and showed me it wasn’t showing any kind of issues at all. They showed me all of the emission systems readiness on their computer and everything looked fine. They told me my OBD2 Be faulty which I sincerely doubt. If anyone has any thoughts I would sure love to hear them! The truck is driving fine

Have you checked it via Toyota Techstream? Try doing that..

If techstream is the computer the dealership hooks up to it then yes they did that. I made them hook it back up since my OBD two scanner was showing a monitor not ready before I left dealership . They said on their computer they hook up it’s not showing anything wrong. I’m sure that it will get flagged in omissions though. The OBD2 computer I use at home has worked flawlessly in the past and it is the one showing the EV monitor not ready. All I really care about is getting through emissions.

No I mean u can download techstream on your laptop and test it for yourself. You will need a specific cable to do it but it can be done.. Or forgot all this.. just go to a local auto part store and ask them if they see any major issues or codes...

So... What exactly is your issue? If you exclude your scanner, is the truck actually throwing any codes or doing anything weird?

    Hello,

nope no codes at all. Took it to auto one this morning They have them hook up their scanner and he said everything is showing fine on the AutoZone scanner and computer. My truck is driving fine, it’s just that Evap monitor that’s still popping up on my obd 2. (not a code, just the EV monitor alert).

My only concern is trying to pass Arizona emissions.

This all started about a month and half ago. My engine would complete die under hard acceleration at 40 miles an hour. (no codes being thrown)

dealer did an ecu reset, then I did a battery reset. Transmission issues are gone but still getting that darn EV monitor

The only thing maybe I can guess that is that for the evap monitor to reset and test itself the vehicle has to be cold soaked overnight. I am in Arizona so the truck in the garage probably does not get below 85°F overnight?

Passing the emissions is my only concern. Thanks for everyone taking time to respond by the way !

So if you are planning to get it resolved of the EV code..I think iirc the only thing you can do is to drive it. You can monitor the emissions info with your OBD2 sensor and it should say something like EVAP/Catalytic Conv. clear/passed only then you know for sure the car will pass emissions. Thats how I have done it in the past.

Yeah that’s what I figured as it just Has to be driven, but I put a couple hundred miles on it and I don’t know why it hasn’t reset. I’m wondering if it’s because the ambient temperature here in Arizona is too hot For the monitor to do a proper cold soak.

It’s always worked perfectly so I don’t think it’s the scanner issue?

I probably had it for seven or eight years and it’s always given me reliable data…

But at this point I really have no idea why this darn EV monitor keeps flashing at me

So after looking up innova 3020 and flashing ev/eva light the conclusion is the device is telling you its not familiar with DTC system that's being used. everyone also stated they where able to pass emissions, its the reason no one else's scanner would pick it up. you have nothing to worry about. :)

I hope that’s it… but why after owning that scanner for at least 8 years … and it not ever giving my that EV light before… is it now doing it?

Unfortunately also I ran by dealership yesterday and my service guy pulled out his brand new scanner as well.. (not the big actual Toyota one) but one of the really nice portable ones with basically a little computer screen on it that you can scroll though , etc. it also said evap system not ready. I’m really at a loss ..

it’s more an annoyance at this point .. I believe AZ let’s you have one monitor not ready and still pass as long as no CEL light on.

i very much appreciate you looking into it though! I’ve kept this truck mint since I bought it new in 07 so now it’s just an irritation

Unless your check engine light is illuminated you should be able to pass the emissions testing in AZ.
