    As the title states.

I live in VT and this state LIVES..LOVES...LOVES salted roads in the winter. Not just salt but a combination of salt and sand. The kind of mixture that turns to a concrete-like substance on your undercarriage.

Is there anything I can do to remove the existing surface rust and protect the vehicle in the long run?

I use CRC heavty duty corrosion inhibitor. It works wonders, and you can still power wash your truck without needing to worry washing them off. They eventually will turn into a thick layer of dry wax-ish looking thing. Have had them on my truck since i bought it two years ago.

I opted for NHOil Enviroment friendly, so far so good.

Lots of recipes for rust prevention. Lots of existing threads discussing said recipes and rust prevention. General consensus is remove as much rust as you can with wire wheel / wire brush etc. and treat with a corrosion inhibitor of choice, not a paint or coating that will trap moisture beneath it. Or the best method is to move south. Works wonders.

I bought an '03 from Maine about 9 years ago, it had a new frame put under it but there were minimal spots of rust elsewhere underneath. I cleaned and prepped the minimal surface rust on the body under the truck with a POR 15 kit. It comes with everything you need to do exactly what you are asking about- you need to follow the preparation steps for best results.

I am a bug about this stuff and that product is excellent, highly recommend. And I also did KNABORES said, I moved to Eastern NC and problem solved. All the best to you!

Here in the Toledo area they use a combination of beat juice and salt just to make it as corosive as possible.
Using the NHOU system every fall No issues 2019 Tundra.

I went with Krown last year. It’s supposed to be done every year, hopefully it’ll work.
